Hugging Face past in hetzelfde bredere beeld.

NVIDIA post-call update: outlook raised, bull case stronger, risks shift to execution

No time to read the full article? Use the five bullets below for the key points.
â–  This is a follow-up update after the conference call: NVIDIA turned pre-market from slightly negative to roughly 5% higher because the commentary was stronger than the initial headline reaction.
â–  The key message is the outlook: NVIDIA gave a much more powerful FY28 growth picture, while the CEO said growth would be much higher without capacity constraints.
â–  Demand is therefore not the problem. The constraints are supply, memory, packaging, power, data center capacity and financeable AI infrastructure.
■ Memory temporarily pressures margins, but that scarcity is driven by the same AI buildout that is fueling NVIDIA’s revenue growth.
â–  Our Investment view remains positive: the call strengthens the bull case, although supply, margins and financing are now the key risks to monitor.

This is our second update on NVIDIA after the Q2 FY27 results and the conference call. The initial reaction to the numbers was mixed. The stock initially traded slightly lower pre-market, but after the additional commentary NVIDIA turned to roughly 5% gains.

That difference matters. The market was not only responding to the quarterly numbers, but mainly to what became clearer afterwards: the outlook has strengthened, demand still exceeds available capacity and NVIDIA is moving further from being a chip seller toward becoming a central player in financing and deploying AI infrastructure.

Investment view

Our Investment view on NVIDIA remains positive and has strengthened after the conference call. The numbers were already exceptional, but the call gave more confidence in the next phase. NVIDIA is showing that the AI infrastructure cycle is not slowing because of weak demand. On the contrary, the constraint is on the supply side.

That is the key point for investors. NVIDIA indicated that revenue toward FY28 could grow by around 70%, while the CEO said growth would be much higher without capacity constraints. That means the bottleneck is not customers, but the physical world behind AI: memory, advanced packaging, power, data centers, components and construction capacity.

We therefore still see upside potential even if the stock consolidates for a while. A stock can move sideways after strong results, especially when investors have to digest new risks around margins and financing. But the underlying message remains powerful: NVIDIA does not have a demand problem, it has a delivery problem. For a market leader with pricing power, that is a much better starting point.

The risks are changing. Memory prices pressure margins. Neoclouds and frontier AI labs require financing structures. NVIDIA is becoming more involved with customers, leases, guarantees and infrastructure that ultimately buys NVIDIA systems. That makes the case more complex, but not automatically weaker. As long as end-demand for AI capacity remains strong and NVIDIA can pass through higher costs, we see this as a risk of scale and execution, not a break in the investment case.

For investors, NVIDIA therefore remains a core name in the AI infrastructure cycle. The call confirms that this cycle is broadening, becoming more capital-intensive and involving more parties than just the large hyperscalers. In that broader infrastructure layer, NVIDIA remains the central player.

Numbers and outlook

NVIDIA reported Q2 FY27 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year on year and 18% sequentially. GAAP net income was $59.7 billion. Non-GAAP net income was $54.0 billion and non-GAAP EPS was $2.22. Gross margin remained at 75.0%.

Data Center remained the engine. Data Center revenue reached $89.0 billion. Hyperscale was $48.7 billion and AI Clouds, Industrial & Enterprise reached $40.3 billion. That latter category grew faster than Hyperscale and shows that demand outside the largest cloud companies is accelerating.

For Q3, NVIDIA expects $108 billion of revenue, plus or minus 2%. Gross margin is expected at 74.0%, plus or minus 50 basis points. The outlook includes no Data Center compute revenue from China. China is therefore not required to meet guidance, but represents potential upside if the market opens further later.

The call made the longer growth picture especially important. NVIDIA said its preliminary FY28 expectation points to around 70% revenue growth. The CEO added that growth would be much higher without capacity constraints. At this scale, that is exceptional and explains why the stock reaction improved after the call.

Free cash flow was $21.3 billion. NVIDIA also returned almost $26 billion to shareholders through buybacks and dividends. This shows that the company continues to generate enormous cash flow, even while investing aggressively in supply, R&D, infrastructure and the broader AI ecosystem.

Supply is the real constraint

The core of the call is that supply has become more important than demand. NVIDIA has already secured significant capacity, but needs more. According to the commentary, supply remains a bottleneck through at least the end of FY28.

This is visible in the commitments. Supply and capacity commitments increased from $119 billion to $279 billion in a single quarter, mainly because of memory. This may be the most important figure in the entire update. NVIDIA is securing critical components for multiple years because expected demand is larger than what the supply chain can currently deliver.

For investors, this is a strong signal. A company does not commit hundreds of billions of dollars to supply if it doubts demand. At the same time, it raises the execution bar. NVIDIA is not only dependent on chip design and software, but also on memory suppliers, packaging capacity, power connections, data center construction and logistics.

The AI cycle is therefore becoming more physical. It is no longer only about better GPUs or faster models. It is about building a global infrastructure layer with land, power, buildings, cooling, networking, memory and financing. NVIDIA sits at the center of that layer, but it must continue to organize the chain.

Memory pressures margins, but confirms demand

Memory is the main near-term concern. The CFO said NVIDIA is facing extreme pricing conditions in memory, that price increases have been stronger than expected and that pressure may continue into next year. NVIDIA is working with memory suppliers to add capacity, but that capacity will not arrive immediately.

Margins are therefore being reset. Q3 is expected around 74%. Q4 may bottom around 71% to 72%. FY28 could then stabilize around 72% to 73%, partly as customer price increases begin to take effect from Q1.

This is a real reset of margin expectations. For some investors, that is disappointing. Still, it does not break the investment case. Gross margin above 70% remains exceptional, especially when combined with an FY28 growth picture around 70%. The market therefore needs to look not only at margin percentage, but at margin on a much larger revenue base.

The cause matters even more. Memory scarcity is not caused by weak demand or customer pricing pressure. It is caused by the AI buildout itself. That makes this risk different. It is not a classic signal that pricing power is disappearing, but a growing pain in a market expanding faster than the component supply chain can handle.

Vera Rubin as the next growth phase

Vera Rubin is no longer an abstract future story. NVIDIA said production shipments began in early August and named CPU, LPX and STX as new growth drivers.

That matters because the market does not want a product pause after Blackwell Ultra. Blackwell remains the main engine today, but Vera Rubin must open the next phase. Inventory growth fits this picture. Inventory rose from $25.8 billion to $31.6 billion, according to NVIDIA in preparation for the introduction of Vera Rubin in Q3.

For investors, the strategic question is whether NVIDIA can monetize multiple generations at the same time. Blackwell needs to remain strong while Rubin ramps. If that works, the cycle is not simple replacement, but a layered compute cycle. Older generations remain useful for inference, enterprise workloads, fine-tuning and rental models, while the newest generation handles the heaviest workloads.

This matters for the financing side. If older GPU generations retain economic value, leasing, rental models and neocloud financing become easier to underwrite. Vera Rubin must therefore succeed not only technically, but also prove that NVIDIA can extend the economic life of its compute platform.

Neoclouds, Hugging Face and broader AI demand

Growth is broadening beyond hyperscalers. AI Clouds, Industrial & Enterprise grew faster than Hyperscale. NVIDIA points to demand from AI-native companies, enterprises, sovereign customers and hyperscalers using AI clouds.

Neoclouds are important in this shift. According to the commentary, neocloud partners could move toward 8GW of installed capacity, compared with roughly 3GW at the end of 2025. This shows a new compute layer emerging outside the traditional megaclouds. That layer expands NVIDIA’s market, but also requires financing because not every neocloud has the same balance sheet strength as Microsoft, Amazon or Google.

Hugging Face fits the same broader picture. Hugging Face is not a hyperscaler and not a frontier lab, but it is a central place in the AI ecosystem. Models, datasets, open-source AI, developers and enterprise applications come together there. As more companies fine-tune, host, test and deploy models, compute demand grows beyond OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google and Amazon alone.

This matters for NVIDIA. It means AI demand is not dependent only on a few large customers. Demand is spreading across model platforms, developers, enterprise AI, sovereign AI, specialist AI clouds and neoclouds. The AI infrastructure cycle therefore becomes broader and less one-dimensional.

Hugging Face is not a side detail. It is a signal that the AI market is developing a developer and application layer on top of the large model builders. That layer needs training, fine-tuning, hosting, inference and tooling. All of these are workloads that ultimately require more compute.

Financing and double monetization

NVIDIA is increasingly helping AI infrastructure become financeable. It is not simply acting as a bank, but using structures that help projects secure funding. These include take-or-pay-like agreements, lease support, guarantees and revenue-share structures.

The logic is clear. Many AI clouds and model makers are growing faster than their own balance sheets and credit profiles can support. Through guarantees, offtake agreements or other support, NVIDIA can help make data center projects financeable. That brings capacity online faster for NVIDIA systems.

This creates a second revenue layer. NVIDIA first earns from the hardware sale. Later, it may earn again through rental revenue or revenue share above a guaranteed floor. If this model works, NVIDIA becomes not only a supplier of chips and systems, but also an economic participant in the infrastructure running on those chips.

That is a major difference from the old chip model. NVIDIA does not simply sell a component and disappear from the transaction. It helps build capacity, accelerates AI infrastructure deployment and may participate in the economic output of that infrastructure. Over time, this could generate billions in additional recurring revenue.

Circular financing and balance sheet risk

The circular-financing debate should be taken seriously. Revenue is real and cash flow is real, but NVIDIA is becoming more financially involved with customers and infrastructure that ultimately buy NVIDIA systems.

The company has invested nearly $50 billion in frontier AI labs. OpenAI’s existing and planned commitments represent roughly 12GW of NVIDIA compute. There is also selective credit support for nearly 2GW at another frontier AI lab. NVIDIA said AI labs for which it uses its balance sheet could contribute roughly a quarter of next year’s business.

That is large enough to watch closely. It is not automatically wrong, but it changes the quality of the analysis. Investors should not only look at revenue growth, but also ask how much of that growth becomes dependent on customers that receive help from NVIDIA itself to finance their infrastructure.

As long as end-demand for AI capacity remains strong and customers can meet their obligations, this model can create significant value. If end-demand disappoints later, balance sheet involvement may become more important. That is the difference between a powerful infrastructure strategy and an overly circular growth model.

The clearest example is the guarantee structure around SB Energy’s PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Ohio. NVIDIA has provided guarantees for land, power and shell buildout for roughly 4.25GW of capacity that will host NVIDIA infrastructure for OpenAI under 20-year leases. The guarantees are capped at $105 billion and phase in as conditions are met.

NVIDIA says each generation of infrastructure at this site could represent around 1.5 million NVIDIA GPUs, or about $150 billion to $200 billion of NVIDIA revenue. Over twenty years, the site can support multiple upgrade cycles.

This shows how large NVIDIA’s new role is becoming. The company is no longer only a chip seller. It is helping enable land, power, buildings, financing and future compute capacity. That can increase value, but also makes the case more complex.

Cybersecurity as an additional AI workload

One notable point from the call was cybersecurity. The CEO described frontier models as important for autonomous security systems that run continuously and at massive scale.

That fits our earlier view on cybersecurity. AI is not only a threat there. AI makes attacks faster, cheaper and more complex, but it also creates demand for autonomous defense systems that must run permanently. That means additional AI workloads, additional inference and additional infrastructure demand.

For NVIDIA, this is not the largest growth driver next to Data Center or Vera Rubin, but it is an important signal. AI usage is broadening into security, agents, industrial AI, sovereign AI, enterprise automation and continuously running systems. That supports the view that demand for AI compute is broadening beyond frontier model training alone.

Cybersecurity also shows why inference becomes more important. Autonomous security systems do not train once and then stop. They need to monitor, respond, classify, predict and decide continuously. That fits a world in which AI infrastructure runs permanently.

What the market has to believe now

The call strengthened the bull case, but the market now has to decide whether the new model is credible enough for the next phase of the stock. The question is not whether the numbers are good. They are. The question is whether NVIDIA can combine around 70% FY28 growth with lower but still exceptional margins, massive supply commitments, neocloud financing and a larger balance sheet role.

That is why the stock can consolidate despite strong numbers. Investors need to digest the new scale. NVIDIA is no longer just a chip seller with high margins. It is increasingly becoming the architect, supplier, financing partner and economic participant in a global AI infrastructure layer.

If the market believes that model, the stock still has upside potential. If the market becomes more concerned about margins, memory costs or circular financing, valuation pressure may temporarily return. For us, that does not change the core. Demand remains exceptional and NVIDIA remains the central player.

Conclusion

Our Investment view on NVIDIA remains positive. The call was stronger than the first headline reaction and the outlook clearly became more powerful. The move from slightly negative to roughly 5% pre-market gains is therefore logical.

The core point is simple: demand is not the problem. NVIDIA is constrained by supply, memory, packaging, power and data center capacity. At this scale, that is exceptional.

The risks are in margins, memory costs, execution and financing structures around neoclouds and AI labs. These risks are real, but they do not break the bull case as long as end-demand remains strong and NVIDIA keeps its pricing power.

Even if the stock consolidates first, upside potential remains. The numbers are extremely strong, the outlook has been raised and the AI infrastructure cycle is broadening.
