■ Crypto: Bitcoin noteert rond $85.560.
English
■ Europe and Wall Street: European futures point to an opening around 0.4% higher in early trading. The AEX broke above 1,120 on Monday and Wall Street closed strongly, with the S&P 500 up 0.66% at 7,773.95 and the Nasdaq Composite rising 1.05% to a new record of 27,477.31. Markets therefore remain notably resilient despite problems in European bond markets. Confirmation is not yet fully broad: SOXX gained only 0.10% on Monday, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index also clearly lagged the Nasdaq.
■ US futures: S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures are around 0.1% higher on Tuesday morning. This resembles Monday’s setup, when futures initially showed little direction before Wall Street accelerated later in the session. As long as technical support continues to hold, we see a greater chance that higher resistance levels are tested again than that the market immediately breaks structurally lower.
■ Asia: the Nikkei gains around 1% and the Hang Seng Tech Index is approximately 0.8% higher. South Korea is the exception, with the KOSPI down more than 1% and renewed pressure on memory and storage stocks. That segment remains somewhat stuck following Micron’s results, although we cannot rule out buyers returning after further consolidation.
■ US rates: the US 10-year yield trades around 5.32% and remains close to its highest level since 2002. Upcoming Treasury auctions are important because substantial new supply could create additional upward pressure on yields. Not every rise in rates therefore has to be interpreted immediately as a fresh inflation shock, but a 10-year yield above 5.3% clearly remains a liability for equities.
■ Europe and bonds: the German 10-year yield trades near 3.49%, France around 4.87% and Spain near 4.15%. France and Spain remain the key European areas of attention because of fiscal problems and political uncertainty. Markets are also considering the possibility that the ECB could use its anti-fragmentation tools if spreads became excessive. That can provide a buffer, but it does not guarantee that bond-market stress disappears quickly.
■ Euro and dollar: EUR/USD trades near 1.1220 after the euro briefly fell to $1.116 on Monday, its lowest level in 17 months. The weak euro and firm dollar continue to show that European uncertainty is being reflected in currency markets. USD/JPY is around 158.2. High US yields continue to support the dollar.
■ Volatility: the VIX trades around 15.53. This is slightly elevated but far removed from panic levels. As long as volatility remains in this area without a clear acceleration higher, it supports the view that equities remain notably resilient despite numerous risks.
■ Oil and commodities: WTI is roughly 0.5% higher but remains just below $90 a barrel, while Brent trades near $100.80. Oil is not an acute disruption for equities at these levels. Flows through Hormuz appear to be increasing, Iraq is selling aggressively and Saudi Arabia is also adjusting pricing and margins. Gold is around 0.4% lower near $4,122 and silver roughly 1% lower around $60.80. Copper is holding up relatively better. High yields and a strong dollar are weighing particularly on precious metals.
■ LNG and energy security: PETRONAS CEO Muhammad Taufik warns that sharply higher LNG prices could ultimately destroy demand and create severe disruption across global energy markets. Asian buyers are currently paying around $25–28 per MMBtu, but he sees prices potentially rising toward $40–50. With European gas inventories at multi-year lows heading into winter and disruptions affecting Asia, pressure is increasing to bring additional production, exploration and new LNG capacity online.
■ SpaceX, gas and Shell: SpaceX wants to build a gas pipeline for its own activities. This is not a direct Shell deal, but it again underlines the growing importance of gas for data centers, AI infrastructure and new industrial projects. This creates an indirect positive read-through for major gas producers such as Shell. Never bet against Elon remains a useful warning for us: many of his plans initially appear extreme but have repeatedly proven to be ahead of broader industrial developments.
■ Technology and semiconductors: large US technology companies remain the main drivers. NVIDIA and Broadcom both gained around 2.1% on Monday and Tesla also closed higher, while the broader semiconductor sector clearly lagged. Broader semiconductor confirmation therefore remains important for ASML, ASM International and Besi. Our tactical preference remains buy on dips in chips as long as the fundamental AI and semiconductor case remains intact and the US market holds technical support.
■ Schneider Electric and PTC: Schneider Electric is offering $205 per PTC share in cash, valuing PTC’s equity at approximately $22.6 billion and the enterprise including net debt at around $23.7 billion. Schneider lost roughly 10% on Monday. Investors are mainly focused on financing, leverage and integration risk. Strategically, PTC fits well alongside Aveva and industrial software, but we do not automatically view the transaction as a direct AI deal.
■ Dassault Systèmes: the Schneider/PTC deal is putting industrial-software valuations back into focus. Dassault Systèmes could benefit speculatively as investors reassess the strategic value of engineering and software platforms. For us, this remains a more speculative setup, although we would not rule out further upside.
■ SAP: the three-day Connect analyst event in Las Vegas will be an important test for SAP’s AI story. Attention is shifting from technology promises toward actual monetization: can AI encourage customers to adopt more modules, accelerate cloud migration and sign larger contracts? Concrete signals around contract growth, cloud adoption and AI’s contribution to future revenue and margins could become important for earnings expectations.
■ L’Oréal: is exploring options to separate rising US legal liabilities linked to talc and other chemical ingredients from its operating businesses. Around 760 US talc-related proceedings were pending at the end of June, versus roughly 620 at the end of 2025. Options include placing liabilities into a separate entity. L’Oréal contests the claims, but the issue adds an additional legal risk alongside the operating outlook.
■ US data centers and power demand: Goldman Sachs expects US data-center power demand to grow 38% in both 2026 and 2027. This implies roughly 12 GW of additional demand in 2026 and another 17 GW in 2027. The forecast for total year-end 2026 capacity rises from 59 GW to 64 GW, while the end-2027 estimate falls from 95 GW to 90 GW. The structural message remains strong: AI and data centers require power, grid capacity and energy infrastructure at an exceptional pace.
■ AI financing: alongside strong data-center growth, financing structures also require close attention. Concerns are increasing around rapidly expanding off-balance-sheet financing across AI and data-center projects. We do not currently see this as justification for a crash scenario, but the risk becomes more relevant as investment, leverage and capital requirements continue to increase.
■ AI infrastructure and cooling: alongside electricity and gas, cooling is becoming an increasingly important part of the AI infrastructure chain. Vertiv remains a relevant name for us. We already own the shares and increasingly believe the valuation becomes more attractive on further weakness. Structural demand for cooling, power management and data-center infrastructure remains strong.
■ Meta and Microsoft: both companies are reducing internal Claude usage and directing employees more toward their own AI tools. Microsoft has cut internal Anthropic usage by more than one-third from a trajectory of at least $1 billion annually, while Meta’s Claude Code user base has roughly halved from around 60,000 to 30,000. MetaCode now has 30,000+ users and Muse Code 6,000+, while Meta still spent more than $105 million on Claude Code over 28 days. The key point is that costs, control over data and reduced dependence on external models are becoming increasingly important, while Claude remains technologically relevant.
■ Robotics: we have started building several small, highly speculative positions in robotics stocks. The premise is not that we already know which companies will ultimately become the winners, but that robotics is developing rapidly enough to justify building some exposure early before the entire sector may be repriced. We had already bought Ouster previously and expanded the theme again on Monday. Risk remains high and not every position will succeed.
■ Second liners: if the broader market remains stable, smaller European companies could also offer opportunities again. Basic-Fit may receive some support now that its financing has been placed into the market, while Aalberts is looking increasingly constructive technically. We do not want to chase strength but remain alert to further improvement.
■ Prosus: the Hang Seng Tech Index is around 0.8% higher, which could provide some support for Prosus at the European open. Prosus does not rank among our preferred names, however. We therefore mainly view any rise as a market read-through rather than a reason to change our view.
■ Siemens Energy: remains on our radar for potential bottom formation. The shares have lost much of their previous momentum, but if the correction starts to stabilise, another attractive entry point could emerge. For now, we want more technical confirmation first.
■ Brazil and EWZ: EWZ generated approximately $8 billion of trading value on Monday, by far the highest level since the ETF’s launch roughly 25 years ago. It ranked among the most heavily traded ETFs of the day, behind only the largest US index products. The extreme increase in volume shows how aggressively international investors are repricing Brazil after the first election round.
■ DeFi and tokenization: DeFi is regaining traction in 2026, with the DEX/CEX ratio around one quarter, approximately $623 billion of perpetual DEX volume in September and rapid growth in tokenized real-world assets and equities. Freely transferable RWA value excluding stablecoins rose to around $39.3 billion, while tokenized equities expanded to roughly $3.15 billion. We do not yet see this as a new speculative DeFi boom, but rather as a structural move toward institutional onchain infrastructure for equities, government securities, credit, collateral and derivatives.
■ Crypto: Bitcoin trades around $85,560. More important is that the $80,000 area continues to hold well and crypto markets have recently performed better than we initially expected. DeFi and DEX volumes are also showing renewed activity. This is not evidence of a new full-scale crypto boom, but it is a positive structural development after a prolonged weak period.
■ European macro: eurozone producer prices rose 8.2% year over year in August, stronger than expected, while Sentix investor confidence declined. Europe is therefore again caught between weaker confidence and persistent price pressure. This makes the ECB’s policy position more difficult, particularly if French and Spanish spreads widen further.
■ Macro today: the US trade balance for August is due at 14:30 Dutch time. For rates, Monday’s ISM remains at least as important: services activity slowed slightly while prices paid climbed to the highest level in more than four years. Wednesday’s Fed minutes will provide additional signals on the future policy path.
■ Desk-view: Europe’s starting position is slightly positive. Futures point to a higher opening, US futures are modestly higher, the VIX is not signalling panic and oil remains around levels that markets can currently absorb. The main mavericks remain US and French yields. As long as technical support holds, we continue to favour buy on dips in chips and selectively monitor software, AI infrastructure, cooling, robotics and several second liners. Markets are not ignoring negative news, but so far they continue to show that many of those risks are being absorbed.
