β Open interest 26 oktober: circa 53.561 calls tegenover 125.542 puts.
β Open interest 30 oktober: circa 408.021 calls tegenover 620.577 puts.

π SPX: Multi-day swing positions - 7,600 becomes decisive, downside risk remains
Market climate for the coming days
SPX closed Friday at 7,623.68, losing 39.75 points or 0.52%. This brought the two-session decline to 133.49 points. The index reached an intraday low of 7,612.07, falling below the previous lows of October 1 at 7,616.78 and October 16 at 7,631.77. It ultimately closed above the former but below the latter. That is not a strong technical signal. The market remains vulnerable, with important support around 7,600 moving closer.
Selling pressure was distributed differently on Friday compared with Thursday. The Nasdaq lost only 0.21% and the SPX technology sector gained 0.34%, while the Dow Jones declined 1.23%. Energy advanced 2.55%, but sharply higher oil prices and a US 10-year Treasury yield near 4.99% weighed on other sectors. Brent crude climbed to approximately $116.72 per barrel. The earlier technology selloff has therefore given way to broader concerns about inflation and financing costs. This weakens the outlook, although stabilization in technology could support a potential SPX recovery.
β Direction: negative, with a risk of further downside. SPX closed below the October 16 low and remains in a negative gamma regime. Immediate attention is focused on 7,600. A convincing break would increase the risk of a deeper correction toward 7,500β7,510.
β Surprise: the biggest surprise lies to the upside. Following the sharp decline over the past two sessions and the rise in volatility, a technical rebound could develop quickly. A convincing recovery above 7,691β7,703 would improve the short-term picture and potentially create room toward 7,725β7,730.
β Gamma: the broader SPX options structure shows estimated negative net gamma exposure of approximately $47.7 billion per 1% index move. This represents substantial exposure under which hedging adjustments could amplify market movements. It increases the risk of sharp moves in either direction without independently predicting where the market will go.
β Zero gamma: the main calculated transition level stands around 7,691. SPX closed almost 67 points below it. The index therefore remains on the negative side of the gamma structure. A convincing recovery above this level would increase the prospects for more stable price action.
β Put area: 7,612β7,617 forms the first immediate support zone, containing Friday's low and the October 1 low. Below that lies the next important boundary around 7,600, which almost coincides with the 100-day moving average near 7,604.
β Put wall: the main put wall in the broader options structure stands at 7,600. This represents a substantial concentration just below the market. However, a put wall does not guarantee support. Under negative gamma, a break could instead be accompanied by additional selling pressure.
β Call area: 7,660 represents the first technical resistance, matching Friday's session high. Above that lies the 7,675β7,691 region. Only a convincing recovery through these levels would improve the prospects for a more sustained rebound.
β Gamma swing line: an important overhead level in the options structure stands near 7,726. This almost coincides with the max-pain area for the upcoming expirations. It is a relevant short-term recovery area, but not an automatic price target.
β Structural call wall: the heaviest calculated call concentration is near 8,100. There is also an important gamma concentration around 8,000. For the current swing horizon, these levels remain too far above the market to determine the immediate direction.
β October 26 open interest: approximately 53,561 calls versus 125,542 puts. The put/call OI ratio stands at 2.34, with max pain near 7,730. Monday's expiration therefore remains heavily weighted toward puts.
β October 30 open interest: approximately 408,021 calls versus 620,577 puts. The put/call OI ratio stands at 1.52, with max pain near 7,725. This expiration contains substantially more contracts than Monday's and will therefore become important for positioning during the remainder of the week.
β Options volume: approximately 2.75 million SPX puts and 2.20 million calls traded Friday. The put/call volume ratio stood at 1.25. Stronger put activity is consistent with a defensive market, but without examining the underlying positions it is not an independent sell signal.
β Volatility: VIX closed at 19.45, rising 0.42 points or 2.21%. It reached 20.66 intraday. Volatility therefore remains clearly above early-October levels. At the same time, the retreat from the session high indicates that immediate stress eased somewhat on Friday.
β Skew: the Cboe SKEW Index declined from 152.39 to 151.80. The market continues to price the possibility of unusually large moves, but the indicator did not deteriorate further on Friday. This provides a modest counterindicator to the negative technical picture.
β Monday implied move: options price an expected move of approximately 73.5 points or 0.96% through the October 26 expiration. The indicative range stands around 7,558β7,705. This range is calculated around the implied forward price and represents expected volatility rather than direction.
β Weekly implied move: for the five trading sessions through Friday, October 30, the market prices a move of approximately 170 points or 2.23%. The indicative range stands around 7,467β7,807. The size of this range indicates that the options market expects substantial price movements during the coming sessions.
β Event risk: the Federal Reserve announces its interest-rate decision on Wednesday, October 28. Microsoft and Alphabet are also scheduled to release quarterly results that day, followed by Amazon on Thursday. Developments surrounding AI investment, profitability and financing costs could generate additional market volatility.
β Horizon: several trading days.
The key question is whether SPX can find sufficient support around 7,600 to contain the recent correction. The recovery from Friday's intraday low shows that buyers have not completely disappeared. Nevertheless, the rebound was insufficient to reclaim even the previous October 16 low. The technical damage has therefore not been repaired. A convincing close below the 100-day moving average near 7,604 would represent an important warning signal and increase the probability of further downside.
The options structure supports a defensive stance but does not justify expecting downside alone. Negative gamma exposure and the large number of outstanding puts indicate an environment in which market movements can develop more rapidly. However, heavy put open interest does not necessarily imply a bearish outcome. Protective positions may be unwound during a recovery, potentially generating additional buying pressure. This makes it important to focus not only on positioning data but also on how SPX responds to the first support and resistance levels.
For the multi-day swing strategy, the directional bias remains negative, but we do not want to chase the market following its recent decline. The combination of important technical support, a higher VIX and stabilization in technology leaves room for a substantial countertrend move. On the other hand, higher bond yields and oil prices could continue to weigh on the broader market. A new position therefore requires confirmation from price action first.

No open SPX positions.
Desk view
π« 7,500β7,510: next important lower support area following a convincing break below 7,600.
π« 7,600β7,604: key downside reference area, containing the put wall and the 100-day moving average.
π« 7,612β7,617: immediate bottoming area, based on Friday's intraday low and the previous October 1 low.
π« 7,625β7,632: initial recovery resistance, including the broken October 16 low.
π« 7,660: Friday's session high and the first more significant resistance during a recovery.
π« 7,675β7,691: recovery area with the main gamma flip at the upper end.
π« 7,700β7,703: psychological level and the 50-day moving average.
π« 7,725β7,730: gamma swing line and max-pain area for the October 26 and October 30 expirations.
π« 8,000β8,100: major structural gamma and call concentrations, not yet directly relevant to the current swing horizon.
The base case remains negative. SPX is trading below the main gamma transition area and the previous October 16 low. Until the market repairs this damage, the risk of further declines remains elevated. The reaction around 7,600 will be especially important in determining whether the current correction deepens.
At the same time, the biggest surprise remains a strong recovery, particularly if technology regains leadership and pressure from oil prices and bond yields begins to ease. That does not yet justify a positive swing position, but it does warrant caution when considering new bearish positions close to support. We will assess the opening and wait for confirmation before considering a new position.
β οΈ Not investment advice. This is a snapshot. Options positioning and gamma can change rapidly during the trading session.
