â–  Broadcom: fundamenteel blijven wij zeer positief.

English

â–  Market view: the market is dull and flattened again. The signals looked reasonably constructive earlier this morning, then the optimism nearly went into the bin, came back out again and as a snapshot could now be thrown straight back in. The AEX is down around 0.4%, Paris is also roughly 0.4% lower, Frankfurt is down about 0.1% and only the BEL20 is still showing some enthusiasm with a gain of around 0.4%. There is enough fundamental fuel from corporate earnings to move higher, but the market simply does not want to. Every attempt to rise appears to be pushed straight back into its box.
â–  United States: futures have also slipped back again. The S&P 500 future is roughly unchanged and the Nasdaq 100 future is down around 0.2%. These are small moves, but they fit the current picture perfectly: every rise is given back while every decline also fails to develop into a real move. Perhaps US investors will pick up the glove this afternoon, but right now it mainly looks like yet another lethargic market day.
â–  Rates: the earlier support from bonds has become less clear as well. The US 10-year yield is around 4.79%, almost unchanged, while the German 10-year is near 3.37%. That is not dramatic in itself, but the idea that lower yields would automatically push markets higher today is clearly not working.
â–  Oil / Iran: this is the biggest reversal of the day. Oil was lower earlier but is now up around 1.5%. That removes an important support for equities and means the earlier positive projection for today can just as easily go back into the bin. Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remain the real tail risk. It is not only about renewed missile attacks, as an incident involving an oil tanker or a serious disruption to shipping could rapidly reverse the entire market picture. At the same time, Goldman Sachs reportedly estimates that roughly two thirds of shipping has resumed, while Saudi Arabia and others are working on rerouting. The logistics chain is adapting, but markets currently appear to place little weight on Trump's earlier comments that the attacks on Iran would be short-lived.
■ China / Trump: Trump continues to say he has highly productive matters to discuss with President Xi and describes potential talks in his familiar style as “very exciting and great”. The tone is friendlier, but without concrete agreements this remains mostly rhetoric and markets are drawing very little energy from it today.
â–  Macro: US employment data are still due later, followed by further inflation figures. In a market already struggling to choose a direction, every new macro release could trigger another short-term swing without necessarily creating a new trend.
â–  German macro: the growth forecast for the German economy has been raised to around 1.4% from 0.8% in the previous quarterly forecast. At the same time, consumer spending remains weak and inflation may increase. European services data are also relatively neutral. There is therefore no major macro shock, but equally nothing strong enough to pull European markets out of their lethargy.
â–  AEX: the index is around 0.4% lower and the attempt to generate enthusiasm above 1,100 is not working for now. We also do not view 1,100 as a Holy Grail. Technically we consider the 1,080 area more important as stronger support. The market can obviously still turn later, but right now it remains sticky.
â–  Asia: this morning's strange swoosh lower in Korea remains a perfect illustration of this market. At first it looked as if the positive mood could go straight into the bin, then futures recovered and now most of that optimism has disappeared again. It remains a pinball machine.
â–  Gold: continues to move somewhat higher and we still believe gold could remain attractive into year-end. A potentially larger US bond-buyback program remains an interesting scenario because additional support for the bond market could give gold another impulse.
â–  Silver: is also higher. We continue to find silver more difficult than gold and therefore clearly prefer gold, although silver also appears to be trying to establish a firmer floor.
â–  FX: EUR/USD is around 1.16. Potential intervention in the yen remains a theme and could still cause sudden moves.
â–  Bitcoin / crypto: Bitcoin is around $77,650 and has slipped back somewhat. We see the same lack of conviction here as elsewhere. Greater risk appetite could immediately attract buyers, but that risk appetite is largely absent for now.
â–  Corporate earnings: this may be the biggest frustration of the day. Snowflake was exceptionally strong and Broadcom was fundamentally much better than the initial share-price response suggested, yet even results like these are unable to get the broader market moving. There is plenty of fuel, but the engine simply will not start.
â–  European semiconductors: the broader semiconductor sector does not want to participate today despite interesting underlying signals. ASMI is down around 2.5% and price action is weak elsewhere as well. At the same time, our view on so-called old chips remains intact. Less advanced chips are certainly not second-rate chips, because AI needs far more than only the most expensive accelerators. This still reminds us of Micron, which nobody wanted for a long time until the market realised how important memory would be for AI. A similar revaluation could eventually emerge in parts of this old-chip segment.
â–  ASML: is down around 1.5%. That is notable because the fundamental signals remain quite good, including the earlier Zeiss comments about China's large technological gap. We will publish another VWAP update. Technically there appears to be some room on the downside in the short term, but the underlying trend remains upward for now.
â–  Infineon / STMicroelectronics: Citi believes both chipmakers may be positioned for a more durable recovery after years of weak sales. AI data centers, automotive and industrial applications can support demand, while carmakers have largely worked through their old inventories. We have highlighted this before in a separate article on so-called old chips and in several updates. Texas Instruments also fits within that idea. For traders this remains an interesting segment even if the sector itself does not want to move today.
â–  Soitec: jumps around 12.9% after strong results and is therefore a clear exception within semiconductors. This shows that markets are still selectively willing to reward good news, just not broadly enough to pull the entire semiconductor sector higher.
â–  European software: Snowflake once again demonstrates how important software is becoming in the next phase of AI. Infrastructure does not only need to be built, AI must then actually process data, automate business processes and be deployed economically. SAP is up around 2% and fits this idea well because it is deeply embedded in mission-critical business processes and could become more valuable as AI increasingly executes transactions and workflows autonomously.
â–  Wolters Kluwer: gains around 2% and is one of the clear positive exceptions in an otherwise dull Dutch market.
â–  Luxury: is much weaker than we expected and down around 3%. We had expected some trading recovery, but that scenario is not materialising. With oil back up around 1.5% and renewed concerns around the economy and the Middle East, Kering and LVMH are both under clear pressure. Our earlier trading idea is therefore not being confirmed today and we remain on the sidelines.
â–  Banks: had previously shown relative strength, but the continuation is lacking here as well. As long as rates and macro do not deteriorate materially, the sector does not necessarily have to fall sharply, but conviction is missing.
â–  Pharma / biotech: remains selective. AI, software and data can become increasingly important to research and development, but today the differences between individual stocks remain large.
â–  Onward Medical: has completed a first implant. Operationally positive, but we are not doing anything with it. The story remains too dependent on further development, financing and eventual commercial execution for us.
â–  Nyxoah: the US Genio study met its main safety and efficacy targets, including a 77% AHI response and no device-related serious adverse events through twelve months. Nyxoah is preparing an additional FDA submission, but here too we remain on the sidelines.
■ Bayer: the Crop Science presentation looks fundamentally good. The division is targeting around 3% organic growth through 2029 versus roughly 2% market growth, higher margins and free operating cash flow increasing from €1.4 billion in 2025 to more than €3 billion in 2029. AI is also being used specifically in precision breeding and molecule discovery. We expected Bayer to trade more positively on this today, but again the shares barely want to move. That fits the current market perfectly: positive news is simply being thrown into the bin.
■ Adyen: its acquisition strategy remains unchanged according to the company despite the acquisitions of Orb and Talon.One. Co-CEO Pieter van der Does stresses that the two acquisitions happened to come shortly after one another and do not represent a change in M&A strategy. Jefferies: Buy, price target €1,233.
â–  Adyen / AI: we believe an underappreciated business case may be developing here. If AI agents begin initiating transactions autonomously, a new market of machine-initiated payments could emerge alongside human-initiated payments. Adyen is already building infrastructure for this through Adyen Agentic. Juniper Research expects agentic commerce to grow from around 620 million transactions in 2026 to 120 billion in 2031, almost 194 times as many, equivalent to roughly 19,255% growth. Transaction value could simultaneously rise from around $8 billion to $3.5 trillion. This is not an Adyen TAM and certainly not an earnings forecast, but it shows how large this payments layer within AI could become. Precisely because traditional models can assign very little value to a market that does not yet properly exist, this could represent an underappreciated growth layer. Competition is obviously real and Adyen will ultimately have to prove how much economic value it can retain.
â–  Aalberts: remains somewhat higher. The semiconductor exposure remains supportive and we think the shares could recover further, although there is no major move today either.
â–  Fugro: is around 1% higher, but for now we mainly view this as bottom fishing after the sharp decline. We first want to see whether that bottom genuinely holds.
■ Alfen: gains around 1.5% and this too is mainly bottom fishing. The €10 to €12 area remains technically important and first needs to prove that it can genuinely provide a base for recovery.
â–  Sofina: is now up around 4%. That is a strong share-price reaction, but we still question whether the figures are truly as strong as the move suggests. They were good, but not compelling enough for us to chase the shares here.
â–  Gimv: is around 5% higher. The results were good but in our view largely in line. The share-price response is therefore more striking than the fundamental surprise.
â–  CMB.TECH: gains another roughly 2%. The stock remains notably strong and every dip still appears to be bought. The recent strong results continue to provide support.
â–  CVC Capital: CVC Secondary Partners has raised $10 billion for a new secondaries fund, almost twice as much as its previous fund, and the shares are up around 2%. Strong fundraising in an interesting growing market, but we find CVC too complex as a stock to translate this directly into an attractive trade. We remain on the sidelines.
â–  Deutsche Telekom: gains around 2% after reports that Elliott may have built a position. The market is therefore rewarding the activist story. The question now is what strategic pressure Elliott can actually exert, including around a potential future combination with T-Mobile US.
â–  Volkswagen: the management board and supervisory board will meet on Friday to discuss a potentially very large restructuring program. That could attract speculators, but for us Volkswagen remains too complex to base a position on at this stage.
■ Heidelberg Materials: remains a stock we follow with considerable interest. The company has production capacity in the United States and may therefore be less exposed to import tariffs than initially assumed. Technically, a bottom appears to be forming with support around €156, although it is not yet clear whether the next upward move has actually started.
â–  Broadcom: fundamentally we remain very positive. The initial negative reaction arose because the outlook was roughly $200 million below expectations, but the underlying AI growth is exceptionally strong. The shares can easily be down a few percent today if the market does not want to move, but that does not change our view. As far as we are concerned, Broadcom could even correct by 30%. We would be more likely to become buyers than abandon the structural case. We still believe the shares can ultimately move substantially higher.
â–  Snowflake: the results were genuinely exceptional. Q2 FY27 product revenue grew 37% to $1.49 billion, the FY27 forecast was raised from $5.84 billion to $6.07 billion and expected non-GAAP operating margin increased from 13.5% to 14.5%. We find the consumption model particularly interesting because AI agents can generate increasing amounts of compute, queries and data processing without requiring an equivalent increase in human users. Even after such a strong reaction, the question in this market remains how much of the gain will ultimately be retained.
â–  Palantir: remains interesting because it links data and models with actual operational decisions and actions. The more autonomous AI becomes, the more important such an execution layer can become.
â–  ServiceNow: can benefit from an increasingly large digital workforce. AI agents need to be managed, controlled and integrated into existing workflows, allowing ServiceNow to move from workflow automation toward orchestration of digital labour.
â–  CrowdStrike: plays a different but equally important role. The more access autonomous agents receive to code, browsers, cloud environments and enterprise applications, the greater the need for identity security, monitoring, detection and response.
â–  Caterpillar: is another company we are revisiting through the physical AI theme. AI will ultimately be about more than chips and software, extending to autonomous machines and automation in the real economy. Interesting, but we want to develop the idea further before turning it into a firm investment case.
â–  Dell: continues to confirm that the AI infrastructure cycle is far from exhausted. Companies are still committing large amounts of capital to hardware and data-center infrastructure.
â–  NVIDIA: remains the clearest anchor of the AI infrastructure cycle. The combination of strong hardware demand and the rise of software supports our view that both layers can continue growing alongside each other.
â–  Philadelphia Semiconductor Index: the limited response remains an important warning. Strong results from individual AI names do not automatically mean the entire sector immediately follows. Europe is showing that very clearly again today.
â–  Wheat / Black Sea: wheat prices are under pressure after comments from Putin about possible progress toward peace around the Black Sea. The region is crucial for global grain exports. That could be positive for the food chain if trade genuinely normalises, but for equities it is having virtually no impact today.
â–  Investment view: we are scaling back our earlier mildly positive bias for today. Fundamentally there is still plenty of good news on the table, but markets are refusing to reward it. Snowflake is exceptionally strong, Broadcom is fundamentally much better than the initial price reaction suggests and SAP and several other names are holding up well, but the broader market cannot get the engine running. At the same time, oil has reversed to around +1.5%, Nasdaq 100 futures are back around 0.2% lower and rates are providing less support. That means the earlier optimism for today can go back into the bin for now. Perhaps US investors will pick up the glove this afternoon, but at the moment this is mainly a dull, sticky buyers' strike. It increasingly resembles periods such as 1994, when corporate results and outlooks could be reasonably good while every blip higher was pushed back and every decline also failed to develop. Not a bearish long-term call, but a market where flooring the accelerator achieves very little when the market itself simply refuses to move.
