Indices Europa na Wall Street: SPX boven 7650, herstel blijft selectief
Dit gaat om het slot in Amerika. We gebruiken geen informatie uit de overnight-sessie.
Wall Street herstelde vrijdag ondanks verhoogde olieprijzen.

■ Dealer gamma — dempend: SPX dealer gamma bleef positief, waardoor intradaybewegingen werden afgeremd.
🔵 English version
Wall Street reclaims Risk Pivot, but SOX warns: the rebound remains selective
This is about the U.S. close. We are not using information from the overnight session.
Wall Street recovered on Friday despite elevated crude prices. SPX closed 0.4% higher at 7,674 and remained above the 7,650 Risk Pivot. That makes Monday’s setup more constructive, but not broadly bullish. The market was supported by Mag7, Tesla and positive Nasdaq flow, but SOX closed lower. That is an important warning for the European semis read-through.
Tesla was the clear standout with a 5% gain. Alternative assets also performed strongly: spot gold traded around 4,600 and Bitcoin around 77,000 at the time of writing. That points to more demand for momentum and convexity, but not to a fully broad-based rally.
The main cap sits at SPX 7,700. A notable customer long call position of about 15,000 contracts is positioned around that level. When SPX approached it, HIRO reversed from about +$5 billion to -$2 billion into the close. That kept the rebound capped.
■ SPX — neutral to bullish above 7,650: SPX closed at 7,674 and remained above the Risk Pivot; as long as 7,650 holds, the setup is more constructive.
■ 7,700 — clear resistance: a customer long call position of about 15,000 contracts sits around 7,700; when SPX approached this level, HIRO turned negative.
■ S&P 500 HIRO — slightly bearish for the index: index flow ended around -$2 billion delta, mainly because of 0DTE call selling.
■ S&P Equities HIRO — positive underneath: single stocks saw about +$1.5 billion delta notional, mainly from longer-dated call buying.
■ Nasdaq HIRO — positive: Nasdaq registered about +$6 billion delta, mainly from longer-dated call buying.
■ SOX — warning: SOX closed lower; the chip index therefore did not confirm the positive Nasdaq flow.
■ Tesla — bullish: Tesla saw about +$1.6 billion delta, the largest reading of the past 30 days, and closed 5% higher at 363.
■ Mag7 — positive: mega-cap tech showed relative strength and supported the rebound.
■ Dealer gamma — dampening: SPX dealer gamma remained positive, which dampened intraday moves.
■ Volatility — compressed: fixed-strike volatility was pushed sharply lower; short-dated IV for next week dropped 1 to 3 volatility points.
■ SPX ATM IV — low: implied volatility for Monday is around 6%, implying roughly a 0.38% expected intraday move.
■ Event calendar — key nuance: low front-end volatility does not mean risk is gone; NVIDIA, Kevin Warsh, NFP, CPI and FOMC keep forward volatility elevated.
■ Oil — cautiously positive for energy: crude remained elevated; that supports energy, but it is not the main theme of the session.
■ Gold and Bitcoin — positive for risk appetite: gold around 4,600 and Bitcoin around 77,000 confirm demand for momentum, but not automatically a broad risk-on signal.
Market picture for Europe
For Europe, this is a selectively positive but clearly nuanced Monday setup. SPX closed above 7,650, Mag7 performed better and Nasdaq HIRO was positive. That helps large tech and growth stocks. But SOX closed lower. Positive Nasdaq flow should therefore not automatically be translated into a bullish semis message.
The European semis read-through has to be tighter. ASML, ASMI, Besi, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, Soitec, Siltronic and SUSS MicroTec receive some support underneath the surface from positive Nasdaq flow, but the lower SOX means the chip sector itself did not confirm. That makes the signals tactical and vulnerable, not broadly bullish.
The second cap is SPX 7,700. The market was rejected there by call positioning, the HIRO reversal and dealer flow. As long as SPX holds above 7,650, the setup is constructive. But only above 7,700 does the market get more room. Until then, this remains a recovery with limits.
AEX and the Netherlands
■ ASML — neutral: positive Nasdaq flow helps large tech, but SOX closed lower; therefore there is no bullish conclusion for ASML.
■ ASM International — neutral: ASMI can benefit if tech flow continues on Monday, but without SOX confirmation the signal remains limited.
■ Besi — neutral: packaging can receive support from better tech flow, but the lower SOX means this is not a clean positive semis signal.
■ Shell — neutral to bullish: elevated oil prices support integrated energy companies, but this is a secondary theme after tech flow.
■ Vopak — neutral to bullish: elevated energy prices and uncertainty can support storage and energy logistics.
■ Fugro — neutral to bullish: higher oil can improve offshore and energy project sentiment, although the link is less direct than for integrated energy.
■ SBM Offshore — neutral to bullish: offshore production can receive support as long as crude remains elevated.
Belgium and local Benelux
■ Melexis — neutral: positive Nasdaq flow helps tech sentiment, but SOX closed lower and Melexis has auto exposure; therefore there is no bullish conclusion.
■ X-FAB — neutral: chip beta can receive support if tech flow continues, but the lower SOX keeps the signal vulnerable.
■ Umicore — neutral: there is no clear battery, metals or EV impulse in this input.
■ UCB — neutral: healthcare is not the core of Friday’s data and receives no direct signal from the flow.
DAX
■ Infineon — neutral: positive Nasdaq flow helps tech sentiment, but the lower SOX prevents a clean bullish signal.
■ Siltronic — neutral: wafer exposure can receive support if tech flow continues, but without SOX confirmation it remains tactical.
■ SUSS MicroTec — neutral: semicap exposure fits positive Nasdaq flow, but the lower SOX requires caution.
■ SAP — neutral to bullish: tech risk appetite helps, but the strongest flow was in Nasdaq and not clearly in broad European software.
■ Porsche AG — neutral: Tesla’s strong day can help auto sentiment, but this is not a direct read-through and not the main theme.
CAC 40 and France
■ STMicroelectronics — neutral: Nasdaq flow was positive, but SOX closed lower; STM therefore remains tactical and not bullish.
■ Soitec — neutral: substrate exposure can receive support if tech flow continues, but the lower SOX limits the signal.
■ Dassault Systèmes — neutral: stronger tech risk appetite helps, but broad software was not the strongest theme in Friday’s flow.
■ TotalEnergies — neutral to bullish: elevated oil prices support integrated energy companies.
■ Technip Energies — neutral to bullish: energy projects and infrastructure can receive support as long as crude remains elevated.
■ Renault — neutral: Tesla’s rise helps auto sentiment slightly, but this is too indirect for a clear bullish conclusion.
Broader Europe
■ ENI — neutral to bullish: elevated oil prices support integrated energy companies.
■ Galp Energia — neutral to bullish: upstream exposure can benefit as long as crude remains elevated.
■ Aker BP — neutral to bullish: producers with direct oil exposure receive support as long as crude remains firm.
■ Subsea7 — neutral to bullish: higher oil can support offshore projects and subsea investment.
■ Logitech — neutral: Nasdaq strength helps tech hardware sentiment, but the link is less direct and SOX did not confirm.
■ Deutsche Telekom — neutral: defensive cash flows are not the main theme in a session driven mainly by tech flow, Tesla and options.
SOX
■ SOX — warning: SOX closed lower despite positive Nasdaq HIRO; the chip index did not confirm the better tech flow.
■ Semis — tactical, not bullish: ASML, Infineon and STMicroelectronics can receive support from Nasdaq flow, but without SOX confirmation the signal remains limited.
■ Semicap — selective: ASMI, Besi, SUSS MicroTec, Siltronic and Soitec remain interesting only if tech flow continues on Monday; the lower SOX makes them vulnerable.
■ NVIDIA — event risk: the chip chain is in a sensitive phase ahead of NVIDIA earnings; positive flow can reverse quickly if SPX fails again at 7,700.
■ Volatility crush — no confirmation: lower implied volatility makes call structures cheaper, but that is not the same as confirmed chip strength.
■ 7,700 SPX — cap on momentum: if SPX fails again near 7,700, tactical semis sentiment can cool quickly as well.
Options picture
The options picture was not unambiguously bullish. S&P 500 HIRO ended around -$2 billion delta, mainly because of 0DTE call selling. That means the index received selling pressure into the close from short-dated call flow.
Under the surface, the picture was better. S&P Equities HIRO showed about +$1.5 billion delta notional, mainly from longer-dated call buying. Nasdaq HIRO was clearly positive at about +$6 billion delta. That points to demand for longer-dated upside in technology.
But the lower SOX makes that tech flow less clean. Nasdaq flow was positive, Mag7 was strong and Tesla stood out, but the chip index did not confirm. That is why the European semis read-through has to remain cautious.
Tesla was the clearest single-stock signal. The stock saw about +$1.6 billion delta, the largest reading of the past 30 days. Tesla bounced from the 350 Key Gamma Strike and closed at 363, up 5%.
The SPX 7,700 area remains the key cap. A customer long call position of about 15,000 contracts sits there. When SPX approached this level around 11:50 a.m. New York time, HIRO reversed from about +$5 billion to -$2 billion. That explains why the market looked constructive, but could not run freely.
Volatility and catalysts
The volatility market was pushed sharply lower on Friday. VIX closed at 15.14, down 6%, and VVIX closed at 86.27, down 4%. Fixed-strike volatility was crushed and short-dated IV for next week dropped 1 to 3 volatility points.
SPX ATM IV for Monday is around 6%. That implies an expected intraday move of about 0.38%. The market is therefore pricing in a relatively calm Monday.
That calm needs nuance. Forward IV remains elevated around the upcoming events. NVIDIA earnings are scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 after the close. Kevin Warsh speaks on Friday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. ET. After that come NFP on September 4, CPI on September 11 and FOMC on September 16. Front-end volatility has been crushed, but the calendar keeps the risk of renewed movement alive.
Conclusion
Wall Street closed higher on Friday and SPX remained above the 7,650 Risk Pivot. That makes Monday’s setup for Europe selectively constructive. The strongest support came from Mag7, Tesla, positive Nasdaq HIRO and longer-dated call buying in single stocks.
But the nuance is essential. SPX was capped around 7,700, S&P 500 HIRO ended negative and SOX closed lower. This is therefore not a broad bullish tech or semis message. European semis should only be read tactically, not as a confirmed sector breakout.
For Monday, the boundaries are clear. Above 7,650, the setup remains constructive. Around 7,700, SPX needs to prove there is more room. Semis remain interesting, but only selectively and with the lower SOX as a warning. Energy receives support as long as crude remains elevated. The event calendar remains the biggest nuance: NVIDIA, Kevin Warsh, NFP, CPI and FOMC can bring volatility back later.
