English version

NVIDIA puts cybersecurity firmly on the AI map

No time to read the full article? Here are the key points:
■ NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang explicitly identifies cybersecurity as an area where frontier AI models will be essential.
■ According to Huang, the sector is moving towards massively distributed, continuously running and autonomous cybersecurity systems.
■ This confirms a view we have highlighted several times before: cybersecurity and related stocks could become important beneficiaries of the AI wave.
■ CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks appear to be among the best positioned for this development.
■ Cloudflare, Zscaler, Fortinet and Check Point could also benefit as AI significantly expands the digital attack surface.
■ AI could simultaneously intensify competition within cybersecurity, making scale, proprietary data and broad platforms increasingly important.
■ The larger and more autonomous AI becomes, the more important cybersecurity is likely to become as part of the overall AI infrastructure.

Following NVIDIA's results, most of the attention naturally focused on the continued expansion of AI infrastructure, chips and data centres. But CEO Jensen Huang also delivered a message that could be equally relevant for investors in cybersecurity. Huang explicitly identified cybersecurity as one of the areas where frontier AI models will be vital and referred to massively distributed, continuously running and autonomous security systems.

Investment view

For investors, this changes the way cybersecurity can be viewed. Traditionally, cybersecurity has primarily been considered a defensive IT expense that companies simply could not avoid. AI could now add a second structural growth engine.

That fits precisely with the argument we have made in several previous articles. The rise of AI does not necessarily threaten cybersecurity companies. On the contrary, cybersecurity and related stocks could become some of the important beneficiaries of AI.

As companies deploy more AI models and autonomous agents, more digital systems will independently gain access to corporate data, applications and infrastructure. This increases the number of potential access points that need to be secured. At the same time, those same powerful AI models can be used to detect attacks faster, automatically assess risks and eventually respond without human intervention.

That creates an interesting double growth driver. AI increases the security problems companies need to solve while simultaneously enabling much more powerful security products.

Within that scenario, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks appear particularly well positioned. Cloudflare also deserves a clear place in this group as an increasing amount of AI traffic, applications and agents communicate through cloud and internet infrastructure. Zscaler, Fortinet and Check Point could also benefit.

Huang's comments therefore reinforce our earlier conviction. NVIDIA supplies much of the computing power on which the AI world is being built. Cybersecurity companies could provide an increasingly important layer ensuring that the infrastructure, models and ultimately autonomous agents can operate safely.

From AI infrastructure to AI security

The first major AI investment wave focused mainly on GPUs, data centres, networking and power. Those areas remain crucial, but as AI is increasingly deployed inside companies, part of the investment focus is likely to move towards the next layer: using all that new infrastructure securely.

The challenge becomes greater once AI agents start operating independently. They can collect information, use applications, access databases and take actions without every individual step being approved by a human.

The logical next step is therefore for cybersecurity itself to become increasingly autonomous. Instead of merely sending alerts to human analysts, security systems will increasingly be able to recognise threats, set priorities and take action independently.

That is essentially the world Huang is describing when he talks about continuously operating autonomous cybersecurity systems.

CrowdStrike

CrowdStrike appears to be one of the most direct beneficiaries of this development. Its Falcon platform has access to enormous amounts of security data and is built around centrally analysing threats, behaviour and endpoints.

The combination of data, scale and automation can become increasingly valuable as cybersecurity moves towards autonomous agents. The more information a security platform can analyse, the better AI can become at identifying abnormal behaviour and responding rapidly.

For CrowdStrike, AI therefore works in two directions. It creates new security risks for customers while also making the Falcon platform itself potentially more powerful and valuable.

Palo Alto Networks

Palo Alto Networks also has a strong starting position. Over recent years, the company has increasingly brought different security functions together within a broader platform and is positioning itself around the protection of AI applications, models and infrastructure.

This could become increasingly important as companies move from running a few isolated AI projects to operating hundreds or thousands of agents across their organisations. Security can then no longer remain a separate product sitting alongside the rest of the IT infrastructure. It needs to become part of the overall architecture.

That platform approach makes Palo Alto Networks particularly interesting in this next phase.

Cloudflare's position becomes more important

Cloudflare clearly belongs among the stocks that could benefit from this shift. The company sits in a strategically important position between users, applications, cloud infrastructure and the internet traffic moving between them.

As more AI applications and autonomous agents communicate with other systems over the internet, the need to inspect that traffic, secure access and stop attacks as close to the network as possible increases.

Cloudflare could therefore benefit in two ways. More AI usage means more digital traffic, but it also creates a greater need to secure that traffic. The combination of networking, cloud, edge infrastructure and security makes the company particularly interesting within a broader AI-security trade.

Zscaler, Fortinet and Check Point

Zscaler could benefit especially from the growing need to continuously verify identity and access. In a world where not only employees but also large numbers of autonomous agents need access to corporate applications and data, zero-trust security becomes even more relevant.

Fortinet has a particularly strong position on the network side. Continued expansion of AI data centres, cloud infrastructure and increasingly complex corporate networks means that more security capacity will also be required there.

Check Point should also remain exposed to structural growth in cybersecurity spending. Its connection to the current AI theme may be somewhat less direct than that of some peers, but it can still benefit if corporate security budgets continue to rise.

Not everyone automatically wins

The rise of AI does not mean every cybersecurity company will automatically benefit. AI can also make existing security tasks more efficient and potentially replace several separate security tools over time.

That could put pressure particularly on smaller vendors with narrow product portfolios. If large platforms can increasingly offer multiple capabilities through AI within a single environment, smaller specialists may find it harder to remain relevant.

Scale, large proprietary security datasets, integration and broad platforms are therefore likely to become increasingly important. That could favour companies such as CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Cloudflare, Zscaler and Fortinet.

The interesting conclusion following Huang's remarks is that the AI trade is broadening once again. Initially, almost everything revolved around chips, data centres and computing power, but the next phase is increasingly about what gets built on top of that infrastructure and how it can operate safely. That is precisely where cybersecurity could emerge as one of AI's most durable second-order winners: not as a temporary hype, but as a structural investment layer that becomes more important with every new AI application.
