■Ageas: staat inmiddels circa 1,3% hoger.
■Pernod Ricard: staat inmiddels circa 7% lager.
■IBA (IBAB): wint inmiddels circa 4%.
Zijlijn.
■CrowdStrike / cybersecurity: sterke cijfers bevestigen onze eerdere visie.
English
â– Market view: Europe remains strikingly directionless and is clearly waiting for America. The AEX is around 0.2% lower, Paris roughly 1.2% down, the DAX around 0.2% higher and the BEL20 virtually unchanged. ES futures are around 0.35% higher and Nasdaq 100 futures around +1%. With NVIDIA, Salesforce, CrowdStrike, Okta and other strong results you would almost say: huppakee, Nasdaq +2%. But that is not happening. The post-NVIDIA gap has been tested and is holding as support, while resistance remains overhead where the market was already chopping around earlier. It has to break through there. Otherwise it is once again nice, all that NVIDIA excitement, and then straight back into the box. Fundamentally the picture remains bullish because corporate earnings are not the problem. But the market is waiting for something; the market simply does not want to move. The traffic light remains orange.
â– Market structure / according to market observers: NVIDIA trades around $223, up roughly 6.6%, exceeding its 5.5% implied one-day move. Salesforce trades around $228, up roughly 11%, versus an implied move of about 6%. Gamma is strongly positive today, which points more toward a sticky range than a major trend day. The 0DTE SPX straddle prices around 40 basis points of movement around 7,710. Part of that gamma support rolls off tomorrow around Jackson Hole and negative gamma is currently seen below roughly 7,625 for next week. If Warsh comes across as neutral to dovish, these market observers expect volatility could be crushed and the SPX could eye 8,000 into September OPEX.
â– Asia: the strong US earnings are not being fully bought there either. The KOSPI was previously around 1.1% higher, but Asia broadly remains mixed. Europe and Asia still seem to need America to take them by the hand.
â– AEX: within Amsterdam you see exactly that divided picture. Chip stocks gain roughly 1.2%-2.3%, while Ahold Delhaize loses around 1.5% and Unilever around 1.4%. At times it almost feels as if the index is being kept under control around a certain level.
â– European semiconductors: chips remain one of the strongest parts of Europe. STMicroelectronics gains around 4%, Infineon roughly 4% and Dutch chip stocks are also clearly higher. That makes it even more striking that the broad European indices themselves barely move.
■France: Paris is around 1.2% lower and financials in particular are sharply weak, with losses of 4%-5%. BNP Paribas is also under heavy pressure. We still think dips there can eventually create buying opportunities, but nobody knows in advance whether this decline is already deep enough. On top of that, France’s own public finances remain a major mess.
â– Belgium: the BEL20 is virtually unchanged. Underneath, the picture is far more active, with UCB around +2%, argenx +1% and IBA around +4%. Again, individual stocks are moving while the index itself barely does anything.
â– Germany: the DAX gains only around 0.2%. Infineon and Rheinmetall are strong, but Germany also lacks broad conviction.
â– America / possible reversal: Europe is waiting for America, but it can also work the other way around. If the US fails to break resistance, it could simply start moving in line with Europe and profit-taking may return after the rally. We have seen that repeatedly lately: suddenly another twist back the other way. It remains a pinball market, almost a pendulum: dips are bought, but rallies keep running into supply.
■Jackson Hole: the market is suddenly putting enormous weight on Jackson Hole and Kevin Warsh’s speech. That may explain some of the waiting. At the same time, our scepticism remains: these are exactly the events where it may turn out that very little new is actually said.
â– Rates: the US 10-year yield is around 4.67%, two basis points higher, and Germany around 3.25%. Rates are therefore not declining, but broadly stabilising. If Scott Bessent actually launches Treasury buybacks, that could initially push long-term yields lower and possibly trigger an equity short squeeze. Afterwards, however, the market still has to deal with the debt issue.
â– Dollar / yen: the dollar index is modestly higher, while the yen is little changed despite hawkish comments from BoJ official Himino. Again, no major disruption.
â– Bank of Korea / South Korea: the central bank raises rates by 25 basis points to 3.00%, its second consecutive hike, while lifting its 2026 growth forecast from 2.6% to 3.3%. The economy is clearly performing better, helped by the semiconductor cycle, although higher rates remain a brake on rate-sensitive parts of the market.
â– Geopolitics: stories are again circulating that Putin could potentially stage some sort of mock attack toward a NATO country. Whether that is true, we simply do not know and we are not going to speculate. The stories alone may be enough to keep investors cautious. If something actually happens, markets will probably first go crazy for a while and then we will see what comes next.
â– Iran and Strait of Hormuz: according to Axios, Trump does not want another military confrontation with Iran before the midterms. If that is true, Iran may think it has considerable room for now. They could almost do the bird dance in front of the White House before anything happens. Meanwhile, arrangements between Iran and Oman around Hormuz remain in focus and the entire dossier remains unresolved. Iran, Israel, Hormuz and the US can therefore repeatedly return as an overhang for markets.
â– August / September: we are heading into September, historically not an easy month for equities, while the US midterms then move closer. It remains a mixed bag of good earnings, geopolitics, rates, politics and technical resistance.
â– Oil: oil is around 0.2% higher. Very little is happening, but after firmer rhetoric from Russia and Iran you can again see how quickly geopolitics can work its way into prices.
â– VIX: remains remarkably calm around 15.2. Despite geopolitics and hesitation, there is still no real panic signal. That continues to fit better with corrections and buy-on-dips than with a bear market.
â– EUR/USD: trades around 1.1650. No major move and therefore no additional disruption from currencies for now.
â– Gold and silver: gold is around $5 lower near $4,588 and appears mainly to be taking a breather. Silver is around 0.3% higher near $68.40, but technically the more important point is that it remains below its four-week lines. It needs to break through those before a further rally becomes more convincing.
■ABP / European capital flows: ABP has moved around €25 billion out of US investments in six months. US government bonds fell from €29 billion to €4.6 billion in roughly eighteen months and positions in NVIDIA, Microsoft and Apple were also reduced. More capital moving toward Europe can offer support there, but if US assets continue to outperform structurally this choice could also cost returns.
â– CMB.TECH: Q2 revenue reaches $704 million versus roughly $582 million expected, pretax income $365 million versus $364 million and EPS $1.26 versus around $0.89. There are exceptional items, so not everything should simply be extrapolated. But the numbers are strong and dips keep being bought. We still believe CMB.TECH can ultimately move higher.
■Ageas: is now around 1.3% higher. H1 net profit reached €776 million versus roughly €697 million expected, full-year 2026 is seen above €1.95 billion and cash upstream above €1.4 billion versus roughly €1.2 billion expected. The 2026 outlook has been raised, although the market had already partly expected that. This remains simply one of those growers for us: crescendo, little drama.
■Pernod Ricard: is now around 7% lower. Revenue fell 14% to €9.4 billion and 3.9% organically, while the US and China were weak. Guidance sits at the lower end of targets. These are simply poor, soft numbers, however you want to describe them. For us this is now clearly a profit warning. Stay away from spirits.
■Delivery Hero: Q2 GMV was better, H1 profit performance was stronger than expected and full-year 2026 guidance is raised. Guidance points to 9%-11% GMV growth, 17%-19% revenue growth and adjusted EBITDA of €960 million to €1 billion. Good news, but the business model remains too difficult for us. We do nothing with it.
■IBA (IBAB): gains around 4%. Revenue rose 6.2% to €323.7 million and EBIT jumped 66% to €17.6 million, with around €32 million EBIT expected for full-year 2026. Good numbers, but our conclusion does not change. We do nothing with it and remain doubtful about the order book and possible future capital needs.
■CFE: higher revenue, lower profit and a mixed picture. ABN AMRO moves to Neutral with a €12 price target versus €14 previously. VMA is doing better, MOBIX remains weak. Sidelines.
■Van Lanschot Kempen: net profit is €84 million, net interest income €97 million versus €94 million expected and commissions €307 million versus around €305 million. Full-year guidance has been raised. The numbers are good and we still think dips will ultimately be bought and the stock can continue moving steadily higher.
■Tessenderlo: revenue is roughly flat at €1.49 billion, EBITDA rises 8% to €176.8 million and the outlook moves to 5%-15% EBITDA growth. After the strong move, the stock is increasingly approaching intrinsic value. That makes the question of how much additional upside remains from here more important. Technically, the stock has not automatically broken out of its declining trend channel either. We still do nothing with it.
■Materialise (MTLS): Q2 revenue rises 8.1% to €70.1 million, reported profit reaches €39.8 million and guidance is reaffirmed. A decent update, but we currently have no explicit investment view.
■Azerion: Q2 revenue falls around 6% to €127.7 million and full-year revenue guidance is lowered. Cost savings and automation have to help, but we still find the presentation too creative. Stay away.
â– Prosus: may indirectly benefit from better sentiment around Delivery Hero and food delivery. That does not change our criticism of the Just Eat Takeaway acquisition. We still do not see it as an obviously strong deal.
■Arcadis: wins a contract together with ProRail related to the Nedersaksenlijn worth €8.5 million. Positive, but not an amount that changes the investment case.
■WDP: ABN AMRO raises its price target to €27 from €26 and maintains Outperform. The market may be underestimating the value of the Argan transaction. That could become a rerating argument.
â– Kendrion: the good numbers remain intact and the shares have moved further higher. Our positive view does not change, but there is no need to chase the move blindly.
â– NX Filtration: the initial reaction to the numbers was better than the underlying figures themselves. Our critical view remains in place.
■DEME: after yesterday’s huge rally our longer-term view remains positive, but we do not want to chase the move. If profit-taking comes, it becomes more interesting again.
■Ackermans & van Haaren: is around 2% lower after benefiting yesterday from DEME’s strong numbers, in which it owns a stake.
â– UCB: gains around 2%. Positive price action, but without a fresh fundamental trigger there is no need to make it a bigger story today.
â– argenx: gains around 1%. Again, mainly a price update; no new investment view.
â– Melexis: is around 1% higher and benefits from the better semiconductor tone.
â– TKH Group: gains around 1.2% and still looks to us as if it wants to keep slowly moving higher.
■Fastned: gains around 2%. The question remains whether the shares can eventually push toward €40. That would be good to see.
â– EVS: remains technically interesting because the stock increasingly appears to be trying to form a bottom. Now we want to see whether that pattern is confirmed.
■Alfen: trades around €11.90. Around €10-€12, some support appears to be returning. It remains striking how hard Alfen collapsed after earnings, almost as if someone wanted to get rid of shares very quickly and used the rally to do so.
â– Renault: is somewhat higher again, but we still do nothing with it.
■D’Ieteren: is weaker. Without new fundamental news, we are not changing our view here.
â– RELX: after the earlier rally, some profit-taking would not be surprising. That fits exactly with the market lately: first a strong move higher and then suddenly another twist in the other direction. It does not change our longer-term view.
â– CSG / Rheinmetall / defence: CSG gains around 3.3% and Rheinmetall around 3%. We remain doubtful. The war in Ukraine has changed the role of tanks; drones make them far more vulnerable and they are sometimes mainly used as tow vehicles. The real question is whether governments eventually shift defence budgets away from physical tanks and more toward drones, electronic warfare and other systems. We do nothing with it for now.
â– Aegon: has again been speaking with investors about its move to the United States. Formal decision-making is due on October 8. We continue to believe a US listing and further shift toward the US could provide additional support.
■SAP: may benefit if investors stop assuming that AI is automatically bad for traditional software. Marc Benioff’s comments support the idea that AI changes the role of software but does not suddenly make software companies redundant.
■Dassault Systèmes: the same applies here. It too may benefit if investors abandon the idea that AI automatically destroys existing software companies.
â– Germany / AI infrastructure: Germany is short of compute while demand continues to rise. That fits directly with NVIDIA: not too little AI demand, but too little compute, chips, memory, data-centre capacity and ultimately power. Growth continues while infrastructure tries to catch up.
â– US power grid / GE Vernova / Siemens Energy: the White House has expanded through an executive order its ability to block foreign-made equipment and software from the US bulk-power grid when considered a security risk. The measure covers transformers, inverters, battery storage, turbines and grid-control systems at 69kV and above. It appears mainly aimed at Chinese suppliers and could restrict supply and support pricing. GE Vernova is a clear beneficiary because of its strong US grid footprint and local production. Siemens Energy can also benefit precisely because it has factories in the US and is strongly positioned through Grid Technologies. This is therefore not bad for Siemens Energy; reduced Chinese competition can also help there. GE Vernova still appears to be the more direct winner.
â– Shell: the daily move in oil changes little about our longer-term view. Shell remains a strong name for us.
â– TotalEnergies: the same applies here. The short-term move in oil does not change our positive long-term view.
â– NVIDIA: this remains the main event. The shares trade around $223 and roughly 6.6% higher after earnings, exceeding the 5.5% one-day move that had been priced in. Revenue and earnings beat expectations, NVIDIA says demand is accelerating and expects around 70% revenue growth in fiscal 2028. Jensen Huang also says AI is now doing economically useful work and demand is broadening from hyperscalers and frontier labs to sovereign AI, agents, robotics and physical AI. NVIDIA is super-bullish and probably would have been even more bullish without supply constraints. The company is openly asking Samsung, SK hynix and TSMC for more capex. You do not ask suppliers for more capacity if you think demand is about to collapse. The CFO also defended the enormous AI investments and financing convincingly. On top of that, brokers are broadly raising their targets: everywhere you look, targets are going higher. Of course the circular AI economy can go badly wrong one day, but for now it keeps running and is not yet the big elephant on the lawn.
â– Kioxia / Sandisk / memory: Kioxia and Sandisk plan around $31 billion of memory-capacity expansion. Kioxia wants to invest roughly $11.3 billion in a new Kitakami fab for high-density 3D NAND aimed at AI data centres and is seeking Japanese subsidies covering roughly one-third of the costs. That fits directly with NVIDIA asking for more capex and Germany saying it is short of compute. AI growth continues and memory and storage have to keep up. Despite the heavy volatility, we still see considerably more profit potential in Sandisk.
■Salesforce / Marc Benioff: Salesforce trades around $228 and roughly 11% higher, well above the approximately 6% move that had been priced in. But Benioff’s words matter at least as much to us. He is effectively saying the market should stop with the nonsense about a “SaaS apocalypse”. We largely agree. AI changes the role of software, but it does not suddenly make software companies redundant. If investors start accepting that, the impact can go well beyond Salesforce. Salesforce itself is still not our favourite software name.
■CrowdStrike / cybersecurity: strong results confirm our earlier view. More AI means more data, agents and connections and therefore more that needs to be secured. Cybersecurity can actually become one of AI’s structural winners.
â– Okta: also belongs among the clear winners from the strong US earnings flow. That fits the broader picture that security software is not automatically being pushed aside by AI. Without fresh concrete numbers, we leave it at that today.
â– Alphabet (GOOGL): Wolfe Research names Google a Top Pick for 2027, reiterates Outperform and sets a $460 price target. Its 2027 estimates rise to $595 billion in revenue, around 10% above the previous estimate, and EPS of $15.89, roughly 6% higher. Google Cloud stands out in particular: Wolfe expects Q3 growth of 125% year-on-year versus roughly 87% for the Street. That supports our positive view on Google and again shows that AI is not only demanding huge investment, but is increasingly translating into revenue growth at the major platforms.
â– Marvell Technology (MRVL): earnings are due after the close and the shares are around 4% higher pre-market. We remain very positive. Marvell sits in almost every favourable chip and AI theme and we think the stock can be picked up much more aggressively over time. We do not call it the all-you-can-eat of the chip industry for nothing. Not in a straight line, but the longer-term direction remains clearly higher in our view.
â– HP: the shares fell around 9% because investors mainly disliked the outlook. We thought the actual reported numbers were good: Q3 revenue rose as higher prices offset lower PC volumes. A weak outlook reaction is not the same as poor numbers.
â– US chip tariffs: according to Politico, the White House may be considering another round of chip tariffs extending beyond standalone semiconductors to servers, laptops and game consoles. Still uncertain, but another possible reason why investors remain cautious despite all the good news.
â– Bitcoin: trades around $79,580. Notably, the green dotted trendline we previously put on the chart has held and the price remained around that level. Above, the four-week lines sit around $92,000 and $96,000; Bitcoin needs to break through those to really move higher. In theory $100,000 is still possible, but first that resistance.
■Investment view: fundamentally the picture remains bullish because corporate earnings are not the problem. NVIDIA remains the main theme, while Salesforce, Google and cybersecurity show that AI is not only demanding capex but is increasingly translating into revenue and earnings. At the same time, compute, memory and power-grid capacity remain scarce. Yet the market still does not really want to break out. Europe is waiting, America is sitting against resistance and part of today’s positive gamma support rolls off tomorrow around Jackson Hole. The traffic light therefore remains orange. Larger dips remain buying opportunities for us, but first America needs to show that it can break through resistance.
