SAP blijft overtuigend groeien in cloud.

Conclusie

SAP rapporteerde sterke cijfers.

■ SAP reported strong numbers, with revenue up 9% to €9.9 billion and cloud revenue up 22%.
■ Current cloud backlog increased 27% to €22.9 billion, while Cloud ERP Suite grew 25%.
■ Free cash flow rose 27% to €3.0 billion and net profit increased 26% to €2.2 billion.

■ Our Investment view on SAP is positive: over 12 to 24 months, we believe the stock is too cheap, but in the short term we still have doubts about the bottom and sentiment.

SAP again reported strong quarterly numbers, with 9% revenue growth, 22% growth in cloud revenue and a 27% increase in current cloud backlog to €22.9 billion. The outlook remains largely intact: SAP repeated its expectations for cloud revenue, cloud and software revenue and free cash flow, but slightly lowered the non-IFRS operating profit outlook because of the Dremio and Prior Labs acquisitions.

Investment view

Our Investment view on SAP is positive. Over the next 12 to 24 months, we believe the stock is too cheap because SAP combines strong cloud growth, high backlog visibility, solid cash flow and a credible AI strategy.

In the short term, we are less aggressive. From both a chart perspective and a market sentiment perspective, we still doubt whether the stock will immediately start rising again. The numbers are strong, but it is still unclear whether the bottom in the stock has already been formed strongly enough.

That makes SAP mainly interesting for investors who look beyond the next few days or weeks. Fundamentally, the company is in good shape. Tactically, confirmation is still needed. A better share price reaction, stronger volume on recovery days and an improvement in broader European software sentiment would make the picture clearer.

The core point is simple: SAP looks fundamentally cheaper than the stock currently suggests, but the market still needs to show that it is willing to pay for that again.

Catalysts

Cloud backlog: current cloud backlog increased 27% to €22.9 billion, giving visibility on future cloud revenue.
Cloud ERP Suite: this core business grew 25% and remains the main engine of the cloud transition.
Cloud revenue: cloud revenue rose 22%, or 24% at constant currencies.
Business AI: SAP links AI to business-critical processes and data, making AI more of an accelerator than a threat.
Free cash flow: free cash flow increased 27% to €3.0 billion.
Outlook: the main 2026 targets remain in place, despite a slight reduction in the operating profit outlook.
Re-rating: if software sentiment improves, SAP can be re-rated as a cloud and AI infrastructure player for enterprises.

Numbers and outlook

Revenue increased 9% in the second quarter to €9.878 billion. At constant currencies, growth was 11%. Cloud revenue grew 22% to €6.281 billion and 24% at constant currencies.

Cloud ERP Suite revenue increased 25% to €5.525 billion. At constant currencies, growth was 27%. This remains the most important part of the report because it is the core of SAP’s transition to recurring cloud revenue.

Current cloud backlog came in at €22.929 billion, up 27%. This number is more important than just quarterly revenue because it shows how much future cloud revenue is already in the pipeline.

IFRS operating profit rose 8% to €2.643 billion. Non-IFRS operating profit increased 7% to €2.743 billion, or 9% at constant currencies. Net profit rose 26% to €2.209 billion. Free cash flow increased 27% to €3.002 billion.

For full-year 2026, SAP continues to expect cloud revenue of €25.8 billion to €26.2 billion, cloud and software revenue of €36.3 billion to €36.8 billion and free cash flow of approximately €10 billion. The non-IFRS operating profit outlook was slightly lowered to €11.8 billion to €12.2 billion because of the dilutive impact of Dremio and Prior Labs.

Cloud remains the core

SAP continues to grow convincingly in cloud. The combination of 22% cloud growth, 25% growth in Cloud ERP Suite and 27% growth in cloud backlog shows that the transition is still firmly on track.

For investors, backlog is especially important. SAP is not selling a temporary product, but contracts that make future revenue visible. That gives the growth more quality.

Traditional software licences continue to decline, but that is not a surprise. This decline is part of the move to cloud. The real question is whether cloud grows fast enough to make SAP more valuable. This quarter again gives a positive answer.

AI as an opportunity

SAP sits deep inside the core processes of companies: finance, procurement, HR, supply chain and customer operations. That makes the company different from software providers whose functions can be more easily replaced by generic AI tools.

CEO Christian Klein linked the strong numbers to the Autonomous Enterprise strategy, with momentum in the Autonomous Suite and Business AI Platform. SAP says customers choose SAP to enable accurate and compliant AI outcomes grounded in critical business processes and data.

That is the right position. AI needs reliable business data. SAP owns the layer where that data, those processes and workflows come together. That is why we see AI as more of an accelerator than a threat for SAP.

Dremio and Prior Labs

The slight reduction in the operating profit outlook is caused by Dremio and Prior Labs. In the short term, this is dilutive for profit, but strategically the acquisitions fit SAP’s AI and data platform.

Dremio should strengthen SAP Business Data Cloud by combining SAP and non-SAP data more effectively for analytics and AI workloads. Prior Labs brings expertise in Tabular Foundation Models into SAP.

This makes the outlook change mainly a short-term accounting headwind. The strategic question is whether SAP can use these deals to strengthen its position in enterprise AI. If it can, the market may later respond positively.

Why the stock looks cheap

SAP is delivering what a high-quality European software leader should deliver: cloud growth, backlog, cash flow, operational discipline and AI positioning.

Still, sentiment around software is fragile. Investors are questioning whether AI can disrupt existing software models and whether valuations are still too high. That can make a strong company temporarily too cheap.

For SAP, we think that doubt is too large. The company is not weakened by AI. It can become more important because reliable business data and workflows are needed to make AI safe and useful inside enterprises.

Over 12 to 24 months, we therefore find the stock attractively valued.

Why we still hesitate short term

Strong numbers do not automatically mean the stock will immediately rise. In SAP’s case, the chart is not yet convincing enough and sentiment around European software remains mixed.

That is why we want confirmation in the short term. The share price needs to show that selling pressure is drying up. The market needs to show that good numbers are being rewarded again. And the broader software complex needs to be under less pressure.

Without that confirmation, SAP can continue to move sideways for a while, even if the fundamental case is good.

Risks

The first risk is market sentiment. If investors continue to avoid software because of AI fears or valuation pressure, SAP can remain too cheap for longer.

The second risk is a slowdown in cloud growth later on. The backlog is strong, but investors will want to see it continue to convert into revenue and profit.

The third risk is acquisitions. Dremio and Prior Labs fit strategically, but still need to prove that they add financial value.

The fourth risk is technical. If the bottom is not strong enough, the stock can come under renewed pressure before the longer-term case becomes visible.

Conclusion

SAP reported strong numbers. Cloud revenue is growing fast, Cloud ERP Suite remains strong, backlog provides visibility and free cash flow is solid. The outlook remains largely intact, despite a limited reduction in the non-IFRS operating profit outlook because of Dremio and Prior Labs.

Our Investment view on SAP is positive. Over the next 12 to 24 months, we believe the stock is too cheap. SAP has the right combination of cloud, AI, cash flow and enterprise positioning.

In the short term, we remain more cautious. From both a chart and market sentiment perspective, the bottom still needs to convince. Fundamentally, SAP is attractive, but tactically confirmation is needed.
