English
â– Market view: Europe looks set to open 0.2%-0.4% higher, with Euro Stoxx 50 futures around +0.4%, but that is actually a weak reaction to what is happening at NVIDIA, Salesforce and CrowdStrike. NVIDIA is up almost 5% after beating expectations on both revenue and earnings, Salesforce is more than 11% higher and CrowdStrike is also sharply up, while Nasdaq 100 futures are gaining only around 0.4% and S&P futures roughly 0.25%. Nasdaq futures have also clearly pulled back from their overnight highs. After numbers like these, you might almost expect the Nasdaq to be 2% higher, but that is simply not happening. Europe appears to need confirmation from the US before investors really dare to push higher. It says little yet about the eventual daily trend, but this remains a classic pinball market: even excellent results do not automatically translate into higher prices. On a pullback, we also expect dips to be bought fairly quickly, while a strong rally could once again attract selling. The market is therefore still standing at the traffic light: does it turn red or green?
â– Bank of Korea / South Korea: the Bank of Korea raises rates by 25 basis points to 3.00%, its second consecutive hike, while sharply lifting its 2026 growth forecast from 2.6% to 3.3%. That confirms that the South Korean economy is performing clearly better than previously expected, helped partly by the semiconductor cycle. At the same time, higher rates naturally remain a brake on rate-sensitive parts of the market.
â– Geopolitics: this is where we think an important part of the uncertainty that cannot be explained by corporate results is coming from. The CIA chief has been in Russia and nobody knows exactly what was discussed, while headlines are simultaneously circulating that Russia may want to escalate further toward NATO. Whether that is actually the case remains unknown. For now these are stories and scenarios, but they may explain why investors are still reluctant to put their foot fully on the accelerator despite strong corporate results and good outlooks.
â– Iran and Strait of Hormuz: according to Axios, Trump does not want another physical war with Iran before the midterms. Our thought is that Iran may therefore believe it has more room to provoke. At the same time, arrangements between Iran and Oman over tolls in the Strait of Hormuz are in focus, with the US notably absent from the story. Press TV now also reports that Oman has stopped cooperating with the US on escorted tanker movements through southern Hormuz. We explicitly treat that last point as a report rather than an established fact. Even so, it makes the picture more complicated and reinforces the idea that geopolitics is currently a bigger source of uncertainty than corporate results themselves.
■Rates: the US 10-year yield is around 4.66%, Japan around 2.89% and Germany around 3.23%. Yields therefore remain elevated, although the rise appears to be slowing for now. If Scott Bessent actually proceeds with his buyback plan, that could temporarily push long-term yields lower and perhaps even help trigger an equity short squeeze. But temporary is the key word: the US government debt problem is not solved and borrowing ultimately has to continue. Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech therefore also remains important for the next move in bond markets.
■ABP / European capital flows: ABP has moved around €25 billion out of US investments in six months. Its holdings of US government bonds fell from €29 billion to €4.6 billion in roughly eighteen months, while stakes in NVIDIA, Microsoft and Apple were also reduced. More capital is moving toward Europe, particularly European government bonds. That can support European bonds and potentially European equities over time. But there is another side to the story: if US assets continue to outperform structurally, this choice could ultimately cost significant returns.
â– Oil: crude futures are mildly to around 1% lower after another indecisive session and mixed geopolitical headlines. That is simply favourable for the broader market picture. Given everything being said around Iran and Hormuz, it is striking that oil is not breaking higher. The market is therefore not pricing in an acute disruption to global oil supply for now.
â– VIX: remains remarkably calm around its recent level of 15.2. Broader volatility measures are not showing panic either. Plenty of geopolitical noise, therefore, but investors are not yet running for the exits.
â– Asia: APAC ultimately finished mixed, although most indices were in the green. Even so, the reaction is far less convincing than one would expect after NVIDIA, Salesforce and CrowdStrike. The KOSPI gains around 1.1%, but even that is hardly explosive. Asia therefore is not fully buying the story yet. That reinforces our impression that Europe and Asia will need the US to take them by the hand today.
â– CMB.TECH: the Belgian numbers once again look strong. There are some exceptional items, so not every profit number should simply be extrapolated, but the broader picture remains good. What stands out to us is that the shares keep being bought on dips. That says something about underlying demand and we believe CMB.TECH can ultimately move higher.
■Ageas: raises its profit outlook and once again confirms how strong European financial stocks remain. H1 inflows rose 17% and net operating profit 6%, while full-year 2026 net operating profit is expected to exceed €1.95 billion. Cash upstream guidance also rises above €1.4 billion. Ageas therefore also provides a good example of the broader picture in European financials: perhaps not the biggest outperformers every day, but stocks that continue to trend steadily higher. Ageas remains an attractive grower for us.
■Pernod Ricard: this is the weaker story on the other side. Revenue fell 14% to €9.4 billion and 3.9% organically, with the US and China down 14% and 19%, respectively. Recurring operating profit fell around 5% to €2.42 billion and the margin to 25.8%. The outlook also points toward the lower end of the company’s own growth target; you could almost describe that as half a profit warning. That does not surprise us. The spirits sector simply remains too difficult and we continue to stay away.
■Delivery Hero: raises its outlook. Q2 revenue rises 17.7%, adjusted EBITDA for H1 beats expectations and full-year 2026 guidance now points to 9%-11% GMV growth, 17%-19% revenue growth and €960 million-€1 billion of adjusted EBITDA. Operationally that is clearly good news, and it is notable that even in a sector we do not like, expectations are being raised. But for us this remains such a difficult market and such a challenging business model that we do nothing with the stock.
■Prosus: Delivery Hero’s outlook increase may indirectly support Prosus through Just Eat Takeaway. Positive sentiment around food delivery could therefore help today. It does not change our longer-term view, however: we still do not see the Just Eat Takeaway acquisition as an automatically strong move for Prosus.
■IBA (IBAB): returns to profit and delivered good H1 figures. Revenue rises 6% to €323.7 million, profitability improves and net profit reaches €9.3 million, while 2026 EBIT guidance remains at least €32 million. Even so, we are doing nothing with the stock. We believe additional capital may be needed in the future and genuinely question how strong the order book ultimately is. Good numbers, therefore, but still not a reason for us to take a position.
â– CFE: higher revenue but lower profit, with clear differences across the various activities. VMA is doing well and expects clear revenue and operating-profit growth in 2026, while MOBIX remains weak. That is enough for us to keep following the story, but not enough to act. We remain firmly on the sidelines.
■Van Lanschot Kempen: these are strong figures. Client assets have risen toward €200 billion and profit increased by around 30% to €88.2 million. The company also expects to achieve its 2027 targets. Whether the shares immediately continue higher is uncertain, but this is exactly the kind of stock that should remain permanently on the radar, particularly after a few weaker market days.
■Tessenderlo: comes through H1 clearly stronger and also raises its outlook. Profit reaches €65.9 million versus a €9 million loss a year earlier. Revenue rises 0.4% to €1.49 billion and adjusted EBITDA increases more than 8% to almost €177 million. More importantly, where Tessenderlo previously expected roughly flat adjusted EBITDA, it now sees 5%-15% growth for full-year 2026. These are clearly better numbers and the shares could certainly stage a strong rally. We are still doing nothing with Tessenderlo, however. Better results and the possibility of a rally do not automatically mean we want to buy the stock.
â– Azerion: Q2 revenue falls 5.9% and adjusted EBITDA drops 10.8%, while full-year 2026 revenue is expected to be merely stable. Cost savings and automation have to rescue part of the weakness. AAA Game Distribution does grow 7.8%, but the underlying development does not convince us. We also find the presentation of the numbers too creative. Stay away.
■Kendrion: yesterday’s good results remain intact and the shares have moved further higher. That confirms our positive view. There is no reason to chase the stock blindly after a rise, but fundamentally the story remains strong.
â– NX Filtration: the market ultimately looked more carefully yesterday at what was really under the hood. The initial reaction was enthusiastic, but the quality of the numbers proved clearly weaker than that share-price reaction suggested. Our critical view therefore remains fully intact.
â– DEME: rallied strongly yesterday despite somewhat weaker headline growth because the bottom line was strong. We had actually hoped for a dip to buy back at a better level. Today therefore becomes interesting: does the rally continue, or do we finally get some profit-taking and another opportunity?
■Siemens Energy: NVIDIA’s message that AI investment remains in full swing is indirectly positive for energy infrastructure. Against that stands uncertainty around possible US requirements for certain energy-equipment components to be produced or sourced domestically. Whether Siemens Energy is actually affected remains unclear. We first want to see how the market interprets this before drawing conclusions.
â– Shell: lower oil may create some short-term headwinds, but for the long term Shell remains a strong name for us. A limited decline in crude does not change that picture.
â– TotalEnergies: the same applies here. Lower oil can create some temporary pressure, but it does not change our positive long-term view.
■NVIDIA: this is unquestionably one of today’s key stories. The shares are up almost 5% after both revenue and earnings beat expectations. Far more important is what the company is saying about the future: NVIDIA sees demand accelerating and expects roughly 70% revenue growth in fiscal 2028. At the same time, the company says a large part of its supply chain has now been secured, even though important constraints remain on that side. Memory demand remains extremely high. The core message is therefore crystal clear: NVIDIA is not seeing a slowdown in artificial intelligence, but demand acceleration. The problem lies more in how much the company can deliver than in any shortage of customers.
■Jensen Huang / NVIDIA: at least as important as the numbers are Jensen Huang’s comments. His message is that AI is now doing economically useful work and that compute is increasingly translating directly into economic value. The demand base is also becoming broader: hyperscalers, frontier labs, startups, sovereign AI, agents, robots and other forms of physical AI all require increasing amounts of capacity. Huang is therefore directly pushing back against the idea that the AI investment wave is nearing its end. The key question for investors today is not only what NVIDIA earned, but whether they believe Huang when he says demand is not slowing but actually accelerating.
â– NVIDIA / CFO and financing: the CFO also faced tough questions about the enormous amounts flowing into AI capex and the broader ecosystem. NVIDIA strongly defends those investments and argues that the economic returns from AI compute are large enough to justify them. For now, we believe those questions were answered convincingly. But this remains one of the biggest risks beneath the entire AI boom: ultimately revenue and cash flow have to keep following the enormous investment.
â– Memory: NVIDIA once again confirms that memory remains one of the key bottlenecks of the AI boom. That is exactly why we do not want to write the sector off after interim corrections. Memory stocks can fall hard and probably will continue to do so from time to time, but as long as NVIDIA and other AI players keep trying to lock in capacity and NVIDIA simultaneously says demand is accelerating, the structural story remains strong. We therefore still believe memory can ultimately see another leg higher.
■Mark Benioff / Salesforce: this is one of the most important comments of the morning for us. Benioff is effectively saying that the market should stop with the nonsense about a “SaaS apocalypse”, the idea that artificial intelligence means the end of software-as-a-service. In his view, that narrative simply does not hold. We think he may well have a point. AI changes the role of software, but software companies remain important across many layers of the corporate world. That is why his words matter much more than Salesforce simply trading more than 11% higher. If investors start believing Benioff, the entire software narrative could shift.
■Salesforce: the results were strong enough to push the shares more than 11% higher pre-market. Salesforce itself remains no favourite of ours, but the combination of strong numbers and especially Benioff’s comments could support the entire software sector. Once again, the question is whether the market believes him.
■SAP / Dassault Systèmes: this is where Benioff’s message could become indirectly interesting. Salesforce is obviously not directly comparable with SAP or Dassault Systèmes, but if investors stop assuming that AI automatically destroys traditional software, European software stocks can also get some breathing room. The sector may simply have been viewed too much in black and white.
â– CrowdStrike: also delivered strong numbers and once again confirms our cybersecurity view. The shares are sharply higher and show that AI is not automatically bad for security software. On the contrary: more AI, more data, more agents and more digital infrastructure simply means more that needs to be secured.
â– Cybersecurity: that is exactly why we have long believed that the market has misread the impact of AI on cybersecurity. These companies do not have to become victims of AI; they may actually become some of its structural winners. CrowdStrike now provides another concrete confirmation of that.
■Software: Salesforce and CrowdStrike together show why “AI is bad for software” is far too simplistic. The role of software is changing and some business models will indeed come under pressure, but other companies will gain new applications, more usage and more demand. This is increasingly becoming a stock-picker’s market rather than a sector that can be written off in one move.
â– HP: the shares fell roughly 9% after earnings because investors focused mainly on a weak outlook. That is notable because we thought the actual reported numbers were simply very good. The distinction therefore matters: a disappointing outlook is not the same thing as poor realised results. The market is mainly punishing the forward view.
â– Aegon: has again been speaking with investors about its move to the United States. Formal decision-making is expected at the October 8 meeting. We have said it before: for us this remains a stock that can move higher. A US listing and further shift toward the US could ultimately add further support.
â– Market mechanics: the options market actually fits perfectly with this pinball-market picture. If the US falls, we think dips are likely to be bought fairly quickly. That fits with declines being dampened. But if there is a strong rally, for example toward +2% on the Nasdaq, selling could return there as well. Rallies can therefore be dampened too. The result is a market that can swing sharply in both directions without immediately developing a new clear trend.
â– EUR/USD: trades around 1.1650. No spectacular move, but still a level worth watching alongside European yields and US futures.
â– Gold: is around 0.2% higher and continues to hold up well. Despite the relatively calm VIX, there is therefore still demand for defensive assets.
■Silver: gains around 1% and remains technically strong. The move is stronger than gold’s, although after the recent run it remains important to watch how much room is left before profit-taking starts.
â– Crypto-related stocks: were already less convincing yesterday. For us, that suggests momentum in crypto is beginning to fade somewhat. Not necessarily the end of the move, but the engine is clearly running less smoothly than it was a few days ago.
â– Bitcoin: trades around $78,640. Bitcoin itself is still holding up reasonably well, but combined with weaker crypto equities the picture suggests that the market may first need to cool down.
■Investment view: put everything together and the fundamental picture actually looks pretty good. Corporate results are predominantly strong, several companies are raising their outlooks and even in sectors we ourselves do not want to touch, such as Delivery Hero, expectations are improving. CMB.TECH looks good, Ageas confirms the strength of European financials, Van Lanschot Kempen remains interesting and Tessenderlo sharply raises its outlook. The real main music, however, comes from NVIDIA and Salesforce. NVIDIA beats expectations, explicitly says demand is accelerating and targets roughly 70% revenue growth in fiscal 2028. Jensen Huang describes an AI market that is becoming increasingly economically relevant and is nowhere near its ceiling. Mark Benioff meanwhile says the market should stop with the nonsense about a “SaaS apocalypse”, while CrowdStrike supports our view that cybersecurity can actually benefit from AI. In terms of numbers, comments and outlooks, the picture therefore looks good. The uncertainty lies somewhere else: in the market reaction and in geopolitics. US futures are reacting surprisingly modestly, Asia is not fully buying the story and Europe appears to need the US to truly push higher. On top of that, Russia, NATO, Iran, Oman and Hormuz continue to hang over the market. The crucial question today is therefore simple: will investors actually believe what Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s CFO and Mark Benioff are telling them? If the US confirms, Europe can move higher. If the US fades again, we are simply back in the middle of that pinball market. Dips are likely to be bought, but a strong rally can attract sellers as well. Fundamentally, the traffic light is closer to green than red, but price action now has to prove it.
