English

â–  Europe: the setup is less enthusiastic than earlier this morning. Technology, semiconductors and lower oil provide support, but European bond markets are becoming a clear headwind. We therefore expect a divided to sideways start rather than a broad higher opening. Buy on dips remains our base approach as long as the broader market structure does not materially deteriorate.
â–  France, Spain and ECB: the French 10-year yield starts around 4.86% versus roughly 3.45% for Germany, while Spain trades near 4.09%. The stress is therefore becoming broader than France alone. Political uncertainty, social unrest and fiscal concerns can widen spreads further. The ECB has tools to counter excessive fragmentation; the experience of 2012 shows that Frankfurt can intervene when market functioning is genuinely threatened, but that is not an automatic guarantee against every widening move.
■ Rates and Fed: the US 10-year yield is around 5.27% and Japan’s 10-year yield around 3.09%. Following the weaker jobs report, markets price less than a 20% probability of an October rate increase, while December remains open. US 10-year Treasury futures gradually recovered overnight. If European bond stress intensifies further, safe-haven demand for Treasuries could push US yields lower.
â–  Euro and dollar: EUR/USD trades around 1.1190 and has reached its weakest level since May last year. The dollar starts the week stronger while French problems and broader European uncertainty weigh on the euro. A weaker euro theoretically helps exporters, but recent share-price performance has provided only limited evidence of that benefit.
â–  Wall Street and futures: Wall Street closed higher on Friday, with technology and semiconductors clearly stronger than the broad market. Enthusiasm faded into the close. US futures have given back most of their earlier gains and provide little direction this morning, leaving the positive technology signal against European rates stress.
■ Asia and Japan: the broad Asia-Pacific index outside Japan gains around 1% and the Nikkei roughly 2.5%. Taiwan is also strong. Trading is thinner because of holidays in China, South Korea and parts of Australia. At the same time, Japan’s 30-year government bond yield is at a record high, keeping the global long-term rates problem firmly in focus.
■ TSMC, Terafab and ASML: Taiwan Semiconductor is among the leaders in Taiwan around its collaboration with Terafab. If additional production capacity results, this could support semiconductor equipment demand. This gives ASML and other suppliers a favourable read-through on top of Friday’s strong US semiconductor trading.
â–  Technology, AI and SpaceX: willingness to pay high premiums and valuations within AI remains striking. Valuations around companies such as Anthropic illustrate how much capital continues to move into the sector, while developments around SpaceX and Terafab also support the investment story around AI infrastructure and advanced semiconductors. Technology therefore remains one of the strongest positive forces in the market.
â–  Monday options structure: SPX, NDX and QQQ begin the week with positive gamma across their broader books and the volatility curve remains in contango. This increases the probability that normal dips are dampened. At the same time, SPX, QQQ and SOXX begin directly against heavy call and gamma barriers, meaning a convincing breakout still requires confirmation.
■ SPX: SPX closed at 7,722.72. Structural zero gamma is around 7,500, the short gamma flip near 7,722.5, the volatility trigger around 7,695, the short put wall at 7,680 and max pain around 7,700. The closing book contains roughly +$39.53 billion of net dealer gamma. Above 7,725–7,750, 7,800 comes into view; below 7,695 is the first warning and below 7,680 the short-term structure deteriorates materially.
■ NDX: NDX closed at 30,807.93. Structural zero gamma is around 27,640, the short gamma area around 30,400–30,500 and the call wall around 30,800. Net GEX into monthly expiration is approximately +$10.1 billion per 1% move. A convincing move above 31,000 would confirm the technology move.
■ QQQ: QQQ closed at 749.58. Structural zero gamma is around 715.80, the gamma flip and call wall at 755, the put wall at 736 and max pain at 740. Monday prices roughly ±0.8%. Above 755–760 the picture strengthens; below 740 and especially 736 the structure deteriorates.
â–  IWM: IWM closed at 281.52. The gamma flip is around 290, call wall 285, put wall 277 and max pain around 280. Small caps remain less convincing than Nasdaq. Above 285 the rally broadens; below 277 a clearly negative signal develops.
■ SOXX: SOXX closed at 588.90 and remains above structural zero gamma around 571.29 but below the heavy gamma flip and call wall at 600. The closing book contains roughly +$30.9 million of net dealer gamma. The 600 area remains today’s most important confirmation level for the semiconductor trade.
â–  Volatility: VIX9D is around 12.06, VIX 15.31 and VIX3M 18.01. Ratios around 0.79 and 0.85 confirm contango. VXN near 21.2 and VVIX around 87 show no acute equity stress, but MOVE around 108 and SKEW around 145 indicate that rates volatility and tail risk remain seriously priced.
■ Schneider Electric, PTC, robotics and Dassault Systèmes: Schneider Electric is acquiring PTC. The transaction again highlights the strategic value of industrial software, engineering, automation and the broader move toward robotics. This may also provide valuation support to Dassault Systèmes. We will therefore assess whether Dassault Systèmes could become suitable for DipRip.
■ Deutsche Telekom: confirms its 2026 outlook and targets approximately €800 million of AI-related revenue outside the US by 2030. This makes AI a more tangible future revenue source within telecom. We are not attaching a position view to the shares yet.
■ Air Liquide: targets a 400–600 basis-point improvement in operating margin between 2026 and 2030 and expects average annual sales growth of approximately 5%, plus or minus 1 percentage point. This is positive for the underlying trend in the shares because structural revenue growth is being combined with a clear improvement in profitability.
■ AkzoNobel: is selling its Southeast Asian and Australian Decorative Paints operations to Nippon Paint for approximately $1.35 billion, around 21 times FY2025 EBITDA. AkzoNobel expects roughly €0.9 billion in net proceeds. The transaction may temporarily support the shares, but we are taking no action and first want evidence on synergies, margins and free cash flow around the Axalta combination.
■ AB InBev: Budweiser Brewing Company APAC expects third-quarter net profit to be adversely affected. AB InBev owns roughly 87% of the business, representing about US$8.5 billion in market value. This is only a limited part of AB InBev’s total value, making this primarily a negative APAC read-through rather than a reason to change the broader case.
■ Exor: has spent approximately €46 million to repurchase 647,787 shares under the first tranche of its up to €125 million buyback and now holds 2.74% of issued share capital. We remain neutral. The main problem for Exor remains its stake in Stellantis, where weak operational and share-price performance continues to weigh on the holding company’s value.
■ Euronext: Jefferies raises its price target from €170 to €190 and reiterates its Buy rating. The bank sees sustained volume growth, expects fixed-income platform MTS to move toward a record third quarter and believes a new share-buyback programme of around €250 million could be announced with the third-quarter results. The recently launched settlement component within the CSD activities and the appointment of a new CEO could provide additional catalysts. We also believe Euronext can move higher and remain positive on the underlying trend in the shares.
■ Oil, Iran and Hormuz: oil is roughly 1–1.5% lower after initially rising on the US-Iran standoff. President Trump says he will make a decision on Iran, while Iran says the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until its conditions are met. At the same time, more aggressive Saudi pricing and other supply factors are weighing on crude. Geopolitical tail risk therefore remains high, but the oil market is not yet confirming a new energy shock.
â–  Gold and silver: gold is roughly $8 lower near $4,132, while silver is around 1% higher near $60.90. Further European stress could generate renewed demand for precious metals, but the strong dollar and high US yields remain headwinds.
â–  Bitcoin: Bitcoin trades around $85,720 and is slightly lower. This is not an unusual move for Bitcoin and provides little additional direction for the European open.
■ Brazil: Flávio Bolsonaro performed better than expected in the first election round and secured a runoff against Lula. The direct impact on Europe remains limited, but Brazilian equities, the real and local rates could react materially.
â–  European macro: services and composite PMIs for France and Germany are due today, alongside euro-area producer prices. French data carry additional weight now that both bond and currency markets are visibly nervous.
â–  US macro: the US ISM services report is due at 16:00 Dutch time. Employment and prices paid are particularly important. Moderate price pressure with sufficient activity would support the market setup; persistent inflation alongside weaker growth would put renewed pressure on rates and equities.
â–  Market buffer: positive gamma, volatility contango, strong technology, the Asian semiconductor rally and lower oil still provide a buffer under the market. Against that stand widening European rate differentials, political and social stress and a weak euro. The buffer remains intact but is less broad than the technology indicators alone suggest.
â–  Market implication: Europe is caught in a clear tug of war this morning. Technology, AI, semiconductors and lower oil are positive, while France, Spain, the broader European rates market and euro weakness work in the opposite direction. We therefore expect a divided or sideways opening rather than a broad risk-on move.
■ Desk-view: we continue to favour buy on dips but want to see the European open first. Technology and semiconductors have the strongest setup, while the news flow around Schneider Electric, Dassault Systèmes, Deutsche Telekom, Air Liquide and Euronext is constructive. Against that stand France, Spain and the broader European rates market. We are taking no action in AkzoNobel, Exor remains neutral and the Budweiser Brewing APAC warning does not change our broader view on AB InBev. We are explicitly reviewing Dassault Systèmes as a possible DipRip candidate. The first question today is which force wins: technology and lower oil, or European rates and political stress. At 16:00 Dutch time, ISM services becomes the main new macro test.
